After President Donald Trump got involved in the negotiation with the overpriced U.S. military contract for F-35’s, the Pentagon announced Friday that they have reached a deal with Lockheed Martin for the purchase of 90 F-35 jets. The price tag will be the lowest in the program’s history. President Trump had previously stated that the costs for the F-35 program were “out of control.” White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer declared it “another big win that the president has delivered on for U.S. taxpayers” and “added up to a total of $455 million savings for U.S. taxpayers from the previous lot, with an average cost reduction of 7.5 percent.” So this is what it feels like when the federal government goes out of it’s way to cost cut and save tax payer dollars.

Via FOX News:

The Trump administration announced Friday that the Pentagon has reached a tentative deal with Lockheed Martin for the purchase of 90 F-35 jets at the lowest price in the program’s history – saving the government millions, officials said…

…Lockheed Martin, in a statement, acknowledged Trump’s involvement spurred them to drive down the cost.

“President Trump’s personal involvement in the F-35 program accelerated the negotiations and sharpened our focus on driving down the price. The agreement was reached in a matter of weeks and represents significant savings over previous contracts. This is a good deal for the American taxpayer, our country, our company and our suppliers,” the statement said.

I was under the impression, from other sites, that the F-35 was a POS, and many thought it was going to be dropped.

If so, why buy any, just shut down the program. ?

If any here are fairly knowledgeable about this aircraft, maybe they can enlighten me / us.

There can be no divided allegiance here. Any man who says he is an American, but something else also, isn't an American at all. We have room for but one flag, the American flag... We have room for but one language here, and that is the English language... and we have room for but one sole loyalty and that is a loyalty to the American people."Theodore Roosevelt-1907.

Good question. But I have still not received a reply to my request for someone to explain why we are buying any at all.

It's complex, first there is no next generation fighter on the drawing board and the F22 program finished a long time ago, second in order for Dump to make america great again he has to make good on some of his rhetoric, so keeping workers in jobs is one and reequiping the military is another. The F35 will be great for ground support
