The man who recited Sura 1 was not Mohamed Magid, who spoke just before him. Many thanks to Andy Bostom for identifying the speaker:
Mr. Sajid Tarar of the Raza-e Mustafa Islamic Center in Pikesville, MD, recited the Fatiha including its 7th verse (Koran 1:7) at this ecumenical service.
During every Friday prayer service in every mosque, Sura 1 of the Koran is recited. The meaning of what is said that Jews incurred the wrath of Allah, and that Christians went astray is supported by all authoritative tafsirs on the Koran. And every Muslim who pays any attention to his religion understands what it means.
Last Saturday, at a National Prayer Service in Washington D.C. attended by President Donald Trump, an imam named Mohamed Magid recited Sura 1, calling on his god to show special disfavor to Jews and Christians. As it happens, Mr. Magid is a known Muslim Brotherhood operative.
Many thanks to Sandra Solomon for the translation, and to Vlad Tepes for the subtitling:

What a scourge that satanic religion is on the earth.
Well, yes, but they do have a point.
The Jews went off the path, and God left the Temple for good, destroyed the altar, destroyed the priests, and scattered the people. The Muslims are right: the Jews DID go astray.
The Christians behaved with great grace under persecution, but then, starting in 385 AD, with the power in their hands, they became the murderous persecutors. Proclaiming "Error has no rights!" they began the killing of "heretics", which did not end until 1826, and did not end anywhere because the Christian Church saw the light, but because the secular civil authorities became strong enough to strip the judicial authority from them.
This is not to say that secular authority has been any great shakes. We have a couple of Reichs and a few "Democratic Republics" worth of murders to disabuse anybody of that notion. But secular authority does not pretend that it derives from God.
The difference between Islam and Christianity is that the God of the Christians forbade killing. Allah commanded it. So, when the Muslims do what they do, they do it with the full sanction of their God.
When Christians have done it, so viciously and for so long, they've done it without any true authority, and were so evil and hypocritical for so long that it utterly sucked the marrow out of the religion and caused it to collapse in stature among the formerly Christian nations themselves.
So, the Muslims are right: the Jews and Christians DID go astray and left the path.
Unfortunately for us all, when Muslims do what Christians and Jews did - kill and chauvinistically extort - they do so with the sanction of their god - they're not sinning. The Jew and the Christian should have always known better, because it has ALWAYS "been written...". But the Muslim, when he behaves like a barbarian, is actually FOLLOWING his Scripture.
When they read that passage they mean a lot of things, none of which tangentially applies to your comments. YES, what you wrote is historically true, and accurate. Not disagreeing there.
However, whenever Muslims read that passage they mean we all should be following their prophet and submit to Islam.
They are saying, Jews are stuck in a defunct covenant. They are saying Christians have been led astray by a concept of Issa which is false or incomplete without the enlightenment of Qur'an.
That's what they are saying. Not the bloodshed which you mention. We know that is direct disobedience of the commands of Jesus Christ.
So when they say "Christians have been led astray", Muhammad did not have in mind the burning and beheadings of heretics. Frankly Muhammad loves beheadings, stonings and the drawn sword.
Again, your historical accounts are accurate. Your theological chastisement is on target. But the passage cited is not saying that. It is saying if you are not in complete submission to Islam, you are off the path being led astray.

I know. That's my point. I am writing from the perspective of third person objectivity, not from a particular faith perspective.
Christians believe their doctrines and in their God. And Muslims believe in theirs.
A believing Muslim, HE thinks he is obeying God, by doing with his god says he should do.
The difference between Islam and Christianity or Judaism, is that the Christians or Jews who kill, enslave, rape and do all of the horrors of history were doing so AGAINST the precepts of their God, but the Muslims, when they do it to non-Muslims, are actually fulfilling what they believe to to be commandments.
Of course they think everybody should be submitting to Islam. And Christians believe everybody should be following Jesus. The difference is that Jesus never told Christians to go kill those who would not follow. Allah DID tell Muslims that.
So, the bad things Christians did tended to discredit their religion in the eyes of their OWN kind - people left Christianity because they were disgusted by Christians' abuses, contrary to Christianity.
But the bad things Muslims do (from the perspective of everybody but Muslims) doesn't discredit Islam to Muslims - their God TELLS THEM TO DO THAT, TELLS them it is ok. This makes Islam particularly hard to deal with, because Muslims don't have crises of conscience when they kill or rape kafirs...that is unless the real God - whose Son Christ is - bleeds through into their consciences anyway, causing them to regret things that they did that are licit and legal under their religion.
