One Dead After Fight Leads To Shooting at Root Beer Stand in Corbin (KY): (just a few miles from my home) Witnesses, police say Williamsburg tow truck operator fired pistol at local man after being assaulted A local man is dead and another has been taken into police custody following a bizarre shooting incident at the Root Beer Stand in Corbin late Friday night. Williamsburg tow truck operator Larry Wilson has been detained for questioning after police and witnesses say he used a small caliber pistol to shoot Todd Carter in the shoulder. Authorities say Wilson shot Carter following a physical altercation between the two men. The shooting happened at about 10:00 p.m. Police were on the scene within minutes and were able to detain Wilson, who was still sitting in his tow truck when they arrived, without incident. "I was ordering my food and I heard a gunshot," said Patty Shelton, a customer at the Root Beer Stand at the time of the shooting. "At first I thought it was some kids playing with firecrackers or something, then I seen him [Carter] coming back and he fell on the car. Then people just tole me to run." Shelton said she panicked, got out of her car and sought safety in the restroom. According to Root Beer Stand owner Willie Champlin, Carter approached Wilson's tow truck from the opposite side of the drive-in restaurant. Soon after, chaos erupted. "I've got four girls working out there and they all came in screaming 'Call 911! Call 911! They were panicked," Champlin said. "They were shouting so loud I couldn't find out why they wanted me to call 911. Then finally somebody told me Todd had got shot." Champlin said Carter, whose wife is an employee at the Root Beer Stand, was still conscious when police and EMS personnel arrived. Some customers tried to stop the bleeding with napkins and towels until he could be transported to the hospital. As for Wilson, witnesses say he never made any attempt to elude authorities. "He never ran. He never even got out of his truck as far as I know," Champlin said. "The police came and got him. They put him on the ground and put him in the car and that was it." A large pool of blood was clearly visible near where Carter collapsed to the ground. A small pool of blood could be seen near the driver's side door of Wilson's tow truck. Corbin Police Sgt. Bill Rose, who is serving as lead investigator in the case, said is not sure what caliber weapon Wilson alleged used to shoot Carter or what could have possibly precipitated the shooting. "I just don't know a whole lot right now," Rose said. "Obviously, Carter had some kind of problem with the tow truck driver and he confronted him but that is about all I know." Police strung crime scene tape around much of the perimeter of the Root Beer Stand shortly after the shooting. The restaurant was closed for the remainder of the evening. Police and Corbin Fire Department personnel were searching for shell casings and other forensic evidence after the shooting. Authorities confirmed early Saturday morning that Carter passed away at Baptist Regional Medical Center. No formal charges have yet been filed in the case. Larry Wilson, of Williamsburg, is led to the Corbin Police Department after allegedly shooting another man late Friday at the Root Beer Stand in Corbin. The root beer stand they're talking about is called A&W, it's been here since 1959, it's the best place for foot long hot dogs and the best root beer, my whole family loves it, and so do I. I seem to remember Larry Wilson (the shooter) from many yrs ago (1971). I was 18 at the time and had just moved here from cincy. My cousin, and another friend, along with Larry and another young man were out cruising and having a good time, it was cold, the roads were icy and slick but stupid me insisted on driving. I took the wheel, we were on some backroad, there was an old wooden bridge, the kind that has two large boards but no side rails going across a creek....I got too close to the right and we turned upside down in that creek, it was a nightmare I thought I'd never wake up from, but thank G-d none of us were seriously hurt. I had a punctured knee cap and a cut on my forehead, but nothing serious. I was terrified since it was my fault, but none of the young men allowed me to take the blame...Larry told the hospital personel that he was the driver. I never forgot what he did for me, but I never saw him again after that night, we just all seem to go our serparate ways after that accident !~ Murron

My first thought was it was a repo gone bad, but upon reading further I'll guess it has something to do with Carter's wife who works at the A&W joint. Just my guess is all.
That could have been it fred, it happens quite often in some areas here, that's why I prefer to stay away from certain areas and live out away from all that domestic violence, drugs...trailer part trash mentality, they're just plain ignorant..
