Title: JERKS: GOP Whines That They Want to Repeal Obamacare, But They Don’t Want to Stop Taxing Us for It

Yeah. I said it. What a bunch of jerks.

For what, at least six straight years now, the Republicans have been pissing and moaning about how much Obamacare sucks.

Well get in line. The majority of Americans who liked their doctor and didn’t get to keep him or her and the rest of us who live in states where Obamacare has already imploded the private health insurance system and made in impossible to afford what was supposed to be “affordable” medical care feel the exact same way.

Now with Obama on his way out the door and a president coming in who spends a lot of his time talking about what a failed “disaster” it is, the GOP finally has a chance to do something about Obamacare…

Buuuuuuuuut….

They are hesitant.

Why are they hesitant?

Well according to the Wall Street Journal and others, it’s because they’re worried about cutting off all the revenue Obamacare is bringing in as a tax:

Republicans eager to scrap the 2010 health-care law are wrestling with whether to immediately cut off the tax revenue it brings in.

Among the thorniest issues GOP lawmakers face as they hash out how to try to dismantle the Affordable Care Act is that getting rid of the health law’s taxes now would eliminate a source of revenue they would need to fund the two- or three-year transition period until any replacement plan is in place…

They’re even talking about repealing it immediately but delaying that repeal for three years (probably while they figure out some other way to tax us) to replace that giant revenue stream Obamacare brings in.

After years of bitching about Obamacare to look good for their constituents and get reelected and that’s how they’re actually going to play it??

Because the dying middle class can really just afford to sit around and continue to get bilked for thousands of dollars per family in B.S. “shared responsibility” payments taxes for years over a purposefully failed law that’s just going to get repealed to eventually institute socialist federal healthcare anyway as it was always designed to do.

What a bunch of (insert every cussword I can think of and three more I just invented here.)

We're going to have universal health insurance, whether it's Obamacare or some other thing. THAT is a political given. "Repeal!" is not what Trump has promised. "Repeal and REPLACE" is the promise.

Universal health care is expensive. No matter how it is done, it is very expensive. It is a cost that the society has to bear. Like defense, it really isn't optional. Certainly it is no longer politically optional.

It is expensive, and that means that the government can do one of three things:

(1) Raise revenue to cover it. (This will pinch economic growth.): (2) Not raise revenue and go further into debt, year after year, to cover it. (This is a path to high inflation and an ever more difficult budget issue.): (3) Slash the government elsewhere to cover it. (But the cost of medical care is so high that would mean, in effect, cutting the military budget in half, which would have other very nasty side effects.)

Of the three, what we will do is make SOME cuts to parts of government. This will reduce the amount of money we need, somewhat, but won't come near to covering it. We will also incur SOME debt - as long as the economy grows faster than the debt margin, we are still advancing. Mostly, we'll do it through taxes.

So, I can understand why Congress is hesitant to lose the revenue it will need. And given the delicate constitutional dance enacted to get Obamacare enacted as a tax but not a tax, completely killing it will kill that special Supreme-Court-granted status. Chief Justice Roberts is still paying for that betrayal of all principle, and if he had the chance to reverse the decision - by not making it AGAIN - he would.

The problem is that the Republicans were never responsible about health care. They PRETENDED (that's all it ever was, a pretense) that it didn't matter whether or not everybody has health care. It does. That's why Donald Trump - who promises coverage for everyone - was elected and Jeb Bush and others were rejected.

Because the Republicans were never serious, they never had a plan. They just wanted repeal. They can't have that. It has to be repeal and REPLACE. Now they are in government, they can't just throw bombs. They actually have to have a PLAN. They're the dog that caught the car - NOW what?

Well, now they have to actually govern. They actually have to have a plan that covers everybody, and they have to pay for it. So it's understandable that they suddenly don't want to lose that tax revenue: they're going to need it.

Seems to me that the time to complain about the taxes imposed by Obamacare should have been done BEFORE THE LEGISLATION PASSED. Jerk. Those taxes are not Trump's fault.

If Trump does repeal those taxes immediately, I'm sure the author will then be screaming, "How will you pay for your plan?!?"

Those taxes are not Trump's fault.

No one is claiming they are.

Effing money-grubbing Republicans.

If Trump does repeal those taxes immediately, I'm sure the author will then be screaming, "How will you pay for your plan?!?"

You have proof of that?

Nah - I didn't think so.
