Opinions/Editorials Title: Jhoffa Poster comment: This may sound alarmist and I think some of it is, but much of it has merit, however. Especially the part about Uncle Sam sticking his red, white and blue nose in your ass over energy usage. There are several ways for a grid to be "smart" 1) Through construction, minimizing transmission loss. As the electrical grid itself acts as a resistive load. Depending on what you're transporting and where, estimates of loss I saw run as high as 9% 2) You CAN modulate the grid and transfer information over it. (Which would probably work best like the dallas semi's one wire technology, but I digress.) (PS: Or you can just use a cell type, radio link like onstar. For example, my alarm system has a radio backup. These things are everywhere and they're cheap. In fact, they're so prevalent, it's not even considered to be particularly "high tech" anymore. The real time backup costs me almost nothing. Think about it - What's a trac phone going for at WalMart now. Something like nine bucks? See what I mean?) Which brings us to: "Smart" meters These are happening now, and these technologies are common place right here.. My water meter is connected via a radio link to the utility. Down the road, new electric meters are also. Think you're just going to break or disable the meter? Think again.. There's a huge fine for doing that. You get to replace the meter if it even looks like you tampered with it, and they're expensive. I've looked at the equipment. On the water meter, its incredibly crude and inexpensive, but the fines and replacement costs aren't. Therefore it's actually profitable for the utility for you to fuck with their transmitter. They will MAKE MONEY every time you do. The water & electric meter can "report" their usage in real time. (Note: Not yet the case for the water meter, current reporting is remote. Meaning: It doesn't have to be physically "read" or even touched unless it fails. No one even has to go near the thing. Real time reporting is enroute.) This saves having to send some idiot around to read them. However, under the watchful eye of carbon nazi's or a cash strapped government seeking more revenue, you could get really fucked. Burning wood won't help you slip under the radar either. You can't outsmart this thing. Consider - Three "smart" meters (Gas, Water, Electric) tell me nearly everything I need to know about your house. I know if there is a heat source there that I am not aware of. I know when you're home and when you are not. I know if you are using a high efficiency washer. I know if you violated the drought ban on water usage. I know when you run the AC. Toss a few smart devices (IE furnace, water heater, thermostat, etc) into the mix and I know even more about you.) With systems like onstar, I know where you go. Who you see. When you went and how fast you got there. I know if you stopped at the bank. I know more about what you do than your spouse or your children know and I can tax you for every bit of it. And you'll fucking pay me, because the only refuge you have left is cash. Much like a high end security system, I can also tell immediately when any sensor fails and dispatch a service person to see what happened to it. (You didn't really think crooks can cut wires unnoticed? Srsly, with a couple of really, really, james bond/mission impossible type exceptions, that shit only happens in the movies, and there are even ways to check up on and likely defeat that. Don't even think you're going to beat this with a piece of tin foil, a black marker or a pair of wire cutters. Be nice if you'd try though, remember.. They fine you for it! cha-ching!) Now 22yo, apartment dwelling, eco-theists will consider this to be a wonderful thing! Finally making all those fuckers pay! Hoo-rah! Families and the elderly will feel differently. Don't worry about too much about the smarmy 22yo kids, they'll eventually get around to taxing them too. This has all the potential to be a really, REALLY bad thing.. The upside is infantesimal, but the downside is everywhere. Imagine a total nazi, tree porking hypocrite like Al Gore, fresh off his private jet and sitting in this mansion, thinking up ways to force you to modify your behavior and taxing you for it when you don't comply? Even better, you apartment dwelling, dick smoking urchins who don't think this will affect you. KNOW THIS - Statistically, one of the three groups with the highest educations and incomes are LIBERALS. (Along with the Conservative "Enterprise" group and the moderate "Upbeats" Now, don't confuse poor niggers with liberals, cause for demographic purposes, they aren't the same thing. They are "disadvantaged democrats" NOT Liberals. Ideologically, you can interchange the terms, but demographically they're not the same thing.) Now imagine "smart socialism" whereby the poor get breaks you pay for in real time? That's completely possible here. Lower income people drive older cars, live in poorly insulated homes and guess what? They CAN'T PAY. There is no way to make them pay, because they simply don't have the money. With this system, we can go through and compare incomes, and levy taxes accordingly. The rich (Statistically = Majority of the three groups I listed above.) can be singled out by their incomes, and have a tax levied in real time. We're already doing it with incomes. Or, like some have suggested in the "cap & trade" scenario, maybe we'll hand out free "carbon credits" to the poor, but make you pay for your usage.. Either way you do it, the end result is the same. Further still, governments in the sun belt states will be deprived of allot of potential revenue associated with winter home heating. Wonder how they'll make that up? You didn't think you were actually going to get a break, did you? Tell me, when was the last time you saw California pass up an opportunity to generate revenue? Allot of major corporations are going to come out really well on this. People, maybe no so much.. Consider: The rich: The Al Gore's and Rush Limbaugh's of the world can pay their way, so they won't give a shit. After all, they were flying around in private jets when you couldn't afford to fill your gas tank. Don't think for a minute you're going to soak them here.. The poor: The poor can't pay, so they'll slide by unnoticed. What are you going to do, jail them all? That's just Blood and turnips, man. If they can't pay, they can't pay.. The middle class: The only group left who can pay, but aren't rich enough not to notice. I promise you that everything I wrote up there isn't alarmism, it's the gospel truth and it is all right here, right now. I didn't exaggerate one fucking iota. I'll even take pictures of some of this stuff if there is an interest. You really need to think about this and who's going to pay for it. You greenie fggts want to stick to "Big business" Dumbasses, check out the links above - Big Bidness are THE ONES WHO ARE GOING TO PROFIT FROM IT. You just get to pay.. But hey, it's all part of saving the earf, right! LOL! Posted 03/09/2009 08:03:49 am CDT by Jhoffa_
