QUITO (Reuters) Ecuadorean President Rafael Correa ordered a U.S. Embassy official to leave the country on Saturday after accusing him of meddling with local police aid projects. "We're not going to let anyone treat us as if we were a colony here," Correa said, adding that the official would be given 48 hours to leave the Andean nation.
Correa, a popular leftist, has generally had good relations with the United States since he took office in 2007. But his socialist allies in Bolivia and Venezuela have clashed with Washington over U.S. policies in Latin America.
Officials at the U.S. embassy in Quito were not immediately available for comment.
