The deadline for free upgrade looms. I'm in the process of backing up my files.

I have several computers in my home network. I have migrated all of them but one to Windows 10. The one that isn't migrated runs older hardware and Windows 10 complains.

For all the others, the migration from Windows 7 to 10 was seamless with no issue at all. The only problem I have experienced is with file explorer; I have found that independent of hardware that file explorer may freeze from tyme to tyme. It isn't a problem, though unless moving massive amounts of data; just bring up the task manager and close the application and restart file explorer and you are good to go.

Do it. Bill Gates needs the money.

LOL! If I do it at all, it'll be while it's still free.

Remove (delete) your old applications (Acrobat, Word, CCleaner, Spybot, Games, whatever), load Win10, the reload those applications from disk or the Internet.

Win10 tries to so this for you but is not very good at it. My experience, anyways.

Other than that, it's a shitty version. Locks up, blue screen, quits for no reason. Their main screen is useless and childlike. If it has great new features, I wouldn't know since I haven't used them yet.

I may just do it because I find Windows 8 versions useless.

I still use Windows 95.

Obama has played at being a president while enjoying the perks … golf, insanely expensive vacations at tax-payer expense. He has ignored the responsibilities of the job; no plans, no budgets, no alternatives … just finger pointing; making him a complete failure as a president

Use XP or perhaps Win 7 or Linux.

You need a touch screen for these versions to be useful. Don't do it unless you really need to

Thanks . I'm told that I'd lose too much of the remaining space on my pc if I convert . I need to get a new laptop soon . But I don't like touch screen anything . I even have trouble with Kindle. My fingers are too big.

I'm using Linux Mint 18 with the Cinnamon desktop. I installed the free VMWare player and run Windows 7 32 bit in that VM with 2 gig of ram. That's for the Windows software I own that won't run in WINE.

The deed is done. Apart from having to re-customize my touchpad settings, no problems so far.

Tom when you use a touch screen you use a styliss, slows down your typing speed but helps avoid the big finger mistakes. Embrace the technology but be sure to insure it these touch screens get damaged very easily, usually by frustrated users throwing them across the room in the early days. There are also more expensive versions which have a docking station and keyboard

Unless you use a tablet with touchscreen-only, stick with Windows 7 Pro or Ultimate.

The improved Windows OS 10 doesn't require a touch screen; yet it offers advanced features which combine Windows 7. Why are you so limited in review?

buckeroo  posted on  2016-07-27   13:02:15 ET  Reply   Trace   Private Reply

#20. To: buckeroo (#19)

Why are you so limited in review?

Because I'm running Win10 on my cheap little tablet to play with - it's a mess and there are constant forced updates. And, this is the version that MS is developing into massive spyware and seeks to control 'renting' instead of owning a copy, requiring those updates to keep up with their latest advertising schemes.

I have yet to find a single feature that's better then Win7-64 Ultimate, except that it works better on touch-only machines.
