The Baltic States are some of the few states in NATO that actually fund their defenses to treaty agreed amts .Article 5 of NATO was invoked once BY THE US after 9-11 and the Baltic States did their part . Estonia has had troops on the ground since the beginning of our response in Afghanistan . The Polish contingent still honors Article 5 and has troops in Afghanistan . Lithuania kept troops their until 2013 . Now if the Russians pour troops into the Suwalki Gap ,and try to lay claim to the territory between Belarus and Kaliningrad ....and the Pole and the Lithuanians invoke Article 5 ;will President Trump allow American forces to be deployed to defend our NATO allies ? The nations I mention do. The nations that have not lived up to their NATO obligations are not under a threat at this time. What do we get out of our treaty agreements ? We are forward based against any potential nation we would have a war with . Is it worth it ? Evidently Trump doesn't think so.
