Back in the 90's, phone companies started phasing them out, due to increasing costs, and the rise of cell phones. Some ( few ) businesses, like gas stations, tried to put in their own, thinking they could make extra money. They quickly found they were losers. I have not seen one in a long time.
I know a guy that got one, and put it on the wall in his basement pool table room. He is an old I&M guy, use to work on them. It looks pretty cool. He is thinking of building a wooden "phone booth" like the old ones to put it in. I think that would be real cool.
I wish I had salvaged some old equip like that before I retired. I know a couple of other guys that acquired some old wall mount crank phones, modified them, and have them operational hanging in their homes. That is really cool.
