Often, in Europe, there are special locations such as the postoffice that also facilitates the use of publick telephones. To: buckeroo (#1) You must live in a cave. When I started policing in 1994, there were 11 pay phones in my county within 508 square miles. I know this because my training sergeant would test me and give me a time limit to drive to all of them (when the calls died down) as a way of me knowing my surroundings if my patrol car or portable radio should take a shit. We always prepared for the worst. Anyhow, the point is, by 2000, there was only two left. By 2004, none. I was even tested on knowing their phone numbers (at all times) and what ones you could actually call into. Only a few of them accepted incoming calls. Needless to say, I kept much info written in my pocket notebook as a means for officer safety.
