R&B group The O'Jays are decrying the use of their song "Love Train" during the Republican National Convention, including a version remixed as "Trump Train," without the consent of the band. Founding members Eddie Levert and Walter Williams said in a statement Thursday that they were asked to appear at the convention in Cleveland, but rejected the offer and said the candidacy of Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump was "divisive and at odds with the overriding message of their song." Williams said he didn't appreciate being associated with Trump, while Levert went further and said, "I think he just may be the anti-Christ." The Rock and Roll Hall of Famers, however, said they were willing to be a part of the upcoming Democratic National Convention. The real puzzler for me is - why did Trump use the Rod Stewart/Faces song "Stay With Me", a song about a hooker? In the morning WTF was up with that? Not a big fan of property rights, eh? Hey you f*cking morons, trump brought the right to use yours and every other group songs.

I believe when it comes to intellectual property like music, the owner cannot discriminate among interested buyers. Just as when selling anything else on the market, whomever is willing to pay has the right to buy. If I'm right on that, the O'Jays have no standing to prevent use of their music at the convention.
