If you knew the police were going to kill your child, would you call them?
On June 19 at 8:20 p.m., Gary Christian called local police on his son for freaking out. Little did he know when they showed up, police would kill him.
What happened to negotiating? Police should be diffusers of situations rather than escalators. Our public servants should be willing to spend hours negotiating to save any life whatsoever.
Devin Scott, who was only 20 years young, could have been talked to and given a chance. Its situations like these where even though he had a bad history and he had a knife, we must set a higher standard for saving a human life at all cost.
The Kingman Police Department investigated the officer-involved shooting and turned their investigation over to the Mohave County Attorneys Office. They claim Scott was advancing on him aggressively, but if you watch the video below, police are the ones who are advancing.
All of the officers have been cleared following the investigation.
Lake Havasu City Police have released 911 tapes of the officer involved shooting and body cam footage of them rushing in and killing Scott.
Get away from me, Ive got your kid, Christian said to Scott on the recording. There is a scuffle and the phone goes dead.
When dispatchers called back and Scott answered the phone, he told them to call off officers.
He overreacted and called 911, Scott said.
Ok, what is your name, the dispatcher asked.
Hes deliberately trying to get the cops called, please stop Dad [expletive] stop, why did you just No, youre not in distress, Scott said. Can you call off? he asked.
You do not need to know my name because the cops do not need to be called to this address because hes overreacting because he is instigating an argument with his son right now, Scott said.
Scott repeated multiple times to call off officers.
According to Havasu News, Christian described the knife Devin had as a small throwing knife.
They had two of the riot mats when they rush a cell to pin an inmate, Christian told a reporter. There were four cops, two of those mats and five feet to rush him. His knife was this long, blade handle and everything, Christian said, using his fingers to illustrate about six inches.
Christian continued, It wouldnt have even penetrated their jackets, let alone the mattresses they were carrying. They could have fallen on him and pinned him.
But they didnt fall on him. Instead, they chose to abruptly end Scotts life.
Below is the graphic body cam footage of police bursting into the bedroom to find Scott laying down in bed. When he gets up with the knife, he is not charging anyone, only telling them to get out.
Instead of simply retreating and waiting to diffuse the situation cops chose almost immediate deadly force.
If your kid is unstable then you might not want to call the police but a mental service or the church.
I don't understand why people think the police are the answer for everything?
Bee's are making a nest outside my door can you send the police!
A black man called me a honky can you send the police!
A white man called me a nigger can you send the police!
A dog shit on my lawn can you send the police!
My husband has been talking to his high school girlfriend can you send the police!
People wonder why police are so mentally drained and don't give a shit. They have to deal with stupid shit all day instead of dealing with real criminals!
I don't understand why people think the police are the answer for everything?
Americans, both liberals and conservatives, think the government is the answer for everything. Both sides want to make the government impose THEIR views and values on everyone.
So sure, police are part of the government.
In this case, the police could have simply left. Or worst case, barracated the door shut. Kid would eventually have fallen asleep, and when he woke up, he'd have been fine, wondering why & how the stupid argument ever started.
But no. They instead break into his room of an agitated man, all the cops shouting at him while shining a bright flashlight in his face, somehow expecting the situation to become less inflamed instead of more inflamed. The outcome was not too unpredictable.
In America, the average citizen, "John Doe" has been conditioned by society about the police state. Nothing more to the issue. Call the cops.
It's not just the cops. It's everything. It's the nanny state. Government needs to be involved with everyone's life from cradle to grave.
How often are people told to never try to act in an emergency, to call the professionals and let them take care of it. Don't try to save anyone in a burning house. Don't try to save a drowning person, don't try to administer emergency medical aid, etc.
And then when someone falls down on the street and doesn't get help from passers by, the media laments about decaying social morals.
