CLEVELAND Former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani is expected to address the Republican National Convention perhaps as early as Monday, the opening night of the convention, according to two sources familiar with the plans.
Giuliani came out in support of Trump in April, ahead of the New York primary, which Trump easily won. The former mayor has since emerged as something of a surrogate for Trump, recently defending the presumptive GOP nominee's controversial response to the Orlando mass shooting. During an appearance on Fox News in May, Trump said he was considering naming Giuliani to head a commission in immigration.
The two sources said they expected Giuliani to speak on Monday; a third source said the day and time hadn't been decided.
A Giuliani representative declined to comment, as did a Trump spokesperson.
Trump has yet to detail the full list of convention speakers, despite saying on Twitter several times last week that an announcement was imminent. Several figures, however, have indicated they plan to address the convention, including House Speaker Paul Ryan, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, and Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker.
Many other high profile GOP figures, however, are leery about addressing Trump's convention, given his high disapproval ratings.
