VALDOSTA, Ga. (AP) — The Latest on the shooting of a police officer in south Georgia (all times local):

4:20 p.m.

Authorities say a man called 911 in south Georgia to report a break-in, then ambushed and shot the officer who came to investigate. Both men were wounded in the ensuing gunfire, and both are expected to survive.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation says in a news release that 22-year-old Stephen Paul Beck called 911, saying his car was broken into Friday morning. Officer Randall Hancock came to investigate, and police say Beck shot at him as soon as he got out of his car.

He was hit twice in his protective vest and once beneath the vest in his abdomen.

The GBI says the motive is unknown, but there is no indication the shooting was connected to the shootings of 12 officers in Dallas on Thursday night. Five of those officers died.

12:40 p.m.

Authorities say a man opened fire on a police officer investigating a report of a damaged vehicle in south Georgia and was wounded when an officer returned fire.

Valdosta Police Chief Brian Childress says the officer also was wounded, but both men are expected to survive. He says the officer was shot "multiple times" but is going to be fine.

The suspect was not identified. Childress would not discuss a possible motive.

Georgia Bureau of Investigation spokesman Scott Dutton says one of the shots hit the officer in the abdomen, just below his protective vest. Other shots hit the officer's vest. Dutton said it's early in the investigation, but there's nothing to indicate that the shooting was related to the ambush of police officers in Dallas.

Damn, responding to a 911 call, and it was an ambush. Things are going downhill fast.

Pinguinite mocks the police by saying, "IMO, the contemporary police culture is one of paranoia because police are conditioned to believe in a substantial risk that every person they encounter could be a killer."

This cop didn't and it almost got him killed. For no reason.

You need to look up the word "mock", as I did no such thing.

You also need to read my full post, where I speculated that the paranoia among police fosters the very sentiments that fuel incidents like the above.

IOW, (I'll spell it out), when police paranoia results in innocent people getting killed, then there's blowback when some people (only takes a very small minority) start engaging in revenge incidents, only they are directed against all police, not just those who have actually partaken in the homicides.

IOW, the paranoia among police ultimately becomes a self fulfilling prophecy, as the story above demonstrates.

"when police paranoia results in innocent people getting killed"

They stop being innocent the moment they reach for a gun.

Does this include people who don't reach for guns, but get killed anyway?

It includes ever case where a black was killed by police and the officer was found GUILTY for lack of justification. Now, run off and cut and paste every case that's been documented that fits that description. It will take you a LONG time to find a handful of cases.

Before cams and audio recordings became commonplace, which is quite recently, it would be hard to prove shootings were unjustified. Any and all doubt would favor the cops. Now that they are common, I expect charges and convictions of cops to increase significantly.

Exactly... a case that isn't found GUILTY by their peers is an INNOCENT case.

So shut your liberal race baiting hole. I won't waste my time on cases without due process CONVICTIONS. We are innocent until proven otherwise by a jury of our peers. Not by the opinion of a liberal chit chat channel posting nobody.

Go elsewhere and cry over what MIGHT HAVE BEEN.

So shut your liberal race baiting hole.

If the inflammatory and judgemental rhetoric you demonstrate here is the same you carried around as a police officer, then it's a good thing you are retired. Otherwise you'd be a danger to everyone you encounter.

Does the same "innocent until proven guilty" apply to the CC holder who was shot? Oh, of course it does, you would say. He is innocent. He's also dead.

We're you there, asshole? Do you know for a fact that he didn't reach for it? And if he didn't reach for it, is the investigation over? How do you know that officer won't be charged? GO FUCK YOURSELF, libtard-race baiter.

More juvenile name calling.... you just cannot get away from it, can you.

And what do you think you know of the case? We agree both guys are innocent until proven guilty. And we know one is dead, and it isn't the cop.

Get away from it? WHY WOULD I WANT TO... YOU DESERVE IT.

Why should anyone be treated better than they deserve? More of your liberal tree hugging, thin skin, love everyone idiology?

You don't deserve anything but to be spit on. It is what it is, even if in your soft weak world, calling a shitbag a shitbag hurts your feelings. Suck it up, liberal.
