United States News Title: Libertarian candidate Feldman’s death leaves world ‘darker place’ The loss of Dr. Marc Allan Feldman of Beachwood has been felt deeply, including throughout the Libertarian Party. “He was a lovable guy and a true Libertarian,” said Carla Howell, political director of the Libertarian Party. “Here at the (national) headquarters, we’ve seen an outpouring of love, support, sympathy, concern and sadness.” Feldman, 56, was an anesthesiologist at Cleveland Clinic. He was found dead in a Brook Park motel room June 22. The health system released a statement June 23: “We are saddened by the sudden loss of Dr. Feldman. He was a talented physician and will be missed.” Feldman also ran for the 2016 Libertarian Party nomination for president before dropping out in May. Feldman’s rap about Libertarianism at the party’s convention in May drew national media coverage. “People got a huge kick out of it,” Howell said. “He really won the hearts of Libertarians with the rap.” At that same convention, delegates elected Feldman to be an at-large member of the Libertarian National Committee, “which was no doubt a reflection of their positive view on him,” Howell said. “The world is a darker place this morning,” Nicholas Sarwark, chair of the Libertarian National Committee, wrote on Facebook June 23. “We have lost one of the lights of the Libertarian Party: Dr. Marc Allan Feldman.” According to a Brook Park Police Department report, a call came in at 7:19 p.m. June 22. Officers were dispatched to Americas Best Value Inn at 14043 Brookpark Road, in less than one minute and arrived at 7:24, shortly after the Brook Park Fire Department arrived. The police called the Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner’s Office to the scene, where Feldman was pronounced dead. Christopher Harris, communication specialist with the medical examiner’s office, said that the office had not made a ruling as of June 29 and that the case was still “pending.” As for why Feldman was at a motel in Brook Park, Brook Park Police Capt. Thomas Dickel said that’s part of the investigation and it’s in the hands of the medical examiner’s office. According to the report, a woman telephoned the motel front desk, which in turn called the police. Rabbi Zushe Greenberg of Solon Chabad, where Feldman was a member, called Feldman “a true scholar and a true gentleman.” “It was very, very sad. It’s a big loss,” Greenberg said. “Words can’t express the feeling.” He said they would frequently engage in long conversations about Jewish or world issues. “It was always a pleasure to listen to him,” Greenberg said. “It was always an intelligent conversation.” Randy Boroff, head of school at Gross Schechter Day School in Pepper Pike, noted the family’s longtime support of the school. Their children attended Gross Schechter, according to Boroff, and after the passing of Feldman’s son, Alec Joshua, on Aug. 7, 2012, at age 16, the family started the Alec Joshua Feldman Creative Writing Award in his memory. The award celebrates an eighth-grader who demonstrates excellence in creative writing. “The entire Gross Schechter family is saddened by the news of the passing of Dr. Feldman and offers our collective thoughts and prayers to the Feldman family,” Boroff wrote. “The Feldman family has been a part of Gross Schechter for many years.” Feldman was a Libertarian Party candidate for Ohio Attorney General in 2010 and collected nearly 104,000 votes. Sarwark said in his Facebook message that Feldman spent most of his adult life not even voting due to cynicism about politics, but that the Libertarian Party “awakened something” in him. “He was tireless and dedicated to sharing that vision with everyone he met, but most importantly, with those who didn’t participate, didn’t vote and didn’t have a voice,” Sarwark wrote. Feldman is survived by his wife, Anne, and three sons, Aaron Asher Feldman of Atlanta, Abram David Feldman of Chicago and Andrew Solomon Feldman of Beachwood. Whatever the reason, I'm sure it was legal and morally acceptable under Libertarian principles.
