Andreas Glarner, mayor of the village of Oberwil-Lieli One of Europe's wealthiest villages has decided to pay a £200,000 fine instead of accepting around 10 refugees under its country's newly imposed quota. Residents in the picturesque Swiss village of Oberwil-Lieli said they voted 'no' in a referendum on whether to accept the refugees because "they wouldn't fit in." It comes after the Swiss government announced a quota system to meet its promise of allowing 50,000 asylum seekers into the country. By rejecting the government's plans, the village - which counts 300 millionaires among its population of 22,000 - has sent shockwaves across the country, with some accusing the residents of racism. The villagers must now fork out 290,000 Swiss francs (£200,000) as a forfeit for refusing to welcome the asylum seekers. One of them, who asked not to be named, told the MailOnline: "We do not want them here, it is as simple as that. "We have worked hard all our lives and have a lovely village that we do not want spoiled."

It is just like the swiss to show the way in democracy. The majority have spoken and they should not be fined for doing it. They know only too well that refugees degrade the living environment and won't fit into the swiss mentality which is precise about everything including the urban landscape. I'm wondering when the rest of us will have the courage to stand up in this way and tell our governments that this is not our responsibility and we don't have to accept it. It is no use telling our politicians since they are not listening, we have to be more demonstative than that. Give the UNHCR the big single finger Those in government must learn they are not the majority and they don't speak for the majority and when we have dealt with this we need to put the other minorities in their place starting with the LGBT
It's good to see they have that much guts and good sense. What's the EU going to do if they refuse to pay the fine? The EU should be disbanded because it has become obsessed with imposing a destructive mission.

& get the UN out of the US ! I have no objection to that. The UN has long outlived its usefullness. It has become nothing but a place for genetic primitives to meet and solicit for their recognition as being elevated to full fledged human beings which is beyond their capability. If I were president I'd give the organization members a week to shred their papers and catch to next plane back to where they came from.
