The incident occurred around 9 p.m. According to The Atlanta Constitution-Journal, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) says 69-year-old Eddie Frank Smith was at home when 22-year-old Andre Smith forced his way inside the house. Andre — who was not related to the elder Smith — made entry through a back door. When the elder Smith went to investigate the noise, Andre allegedly lunged at him. The elder Smith then fired in self-defense, striking Andre in the chest. Andre “ran away and collapsed about 100 yards from the residence.” He was pronounced dead at a hospital. I guess the old wheelchair bound vet was not easy pickings. I love a story with a happy ending! The medicos started radiation and they mentioned possible cure rather than maintenance. My wife and I visited a local funeral home to start pre- planning which is always better to do than wait for after-the-event actions. We both decided on cremation and burial in a National Cemetery. We took out funerary insurance, some twelve thousand for both, which is a fixed amount now. In other words, the cost can't go up. It's good to have that taken care of in advance.
