Title: Cruz shocks his supporters with a sudden exit

NDIANAPOLIS — Moments before Ted Cruz publicly ended a campaign for president that had lasted more than a year, he stood backstage and thanked his closest friends, supporters and advisers for their help and support. Some sat at round tables. Conservative commentator and TV host Glenn Beck stood and watched. A bar table covered with Starbucks cups and an ironing board with an upright iron stood off to the side.

When Cruz finished speaking, the group of about 50 people applauded — several of them wiping away tears — and Cruz’s campaign manager, Jeff Roe, walked away from them, looking down, and shook his head. Cruz’s speech to a group of a few hundred devoted followers from the main stage minutes later was met with disbelief and anguish. “From the beginning, I’ve said that I would continue on as long as there was a viable path to victory,” Cruz said. Murmurs rose in the audience. “I’m sorry to say,” Cruz said — and cries of “No, no!” rang out — “it appears that path has been foreclosed.” This brought an even louder “NO!” As Cruz announced that he was suspending his campaign “with a heavy heart,” a girl of about 12 began to sob. Her father stood nearby with his hand over his mouth and said, “What are you doing?” Cruz sought to reassure his followers inside the Grand Hall Ballroom of the Crowne Plaza hotel. “Hear me now: I am not suspending our fight for liberty,” he said. His father and mother, divorced 20 years ago but standing next to one another on this night, stood behind him. A gaggle of Cruz’s campaign staff stood 20 feet from the stage, many of them red-eyed. After Cruz finished his speech, he began to greet supporters in the front of the crowd, but then abruptly returned backstage after just a few moments, apparently too emotional to continue.

I wonder if Rush will do his show today or stay home in mourning.

I've been a Rush fan since day one. I bought his books and have read them more than once. I tune in every opportunity I get. BUT, he lost me with his thinly-veiled support for Cruz.

And now it has me wondering about what Rush truly believes in. Oh, he talks the talk all right. Then along comes Trump who promises to do exectly what Rush has been calling for and Rush gets cold feet.

Could it be that Rush really supports the Washington status quo? That he's afraid of the change he's been calling for?

Whatever the reason, he just lost a fan.

Hell, just the other day in W.Va, a democrat state

It use to to a Democrat State before the Democratic party took full turn left. They have pretty much been republican since 2000.

Obama has played at being a president while enjoying the perks … golf, insanely expensive vacations at tax-payer expense. He has ignored the responsibilities of the job; no plans, no budgets, no alternatives … just finger pointing; making him a complete failure as a president

" They have pretty much been republican since 2000. "

I don't know about that. Its looks like the state is pretty heavily controlled by d-rats to me. I have family there, and they will tell you the same.

However, I suspect that the state will become Republican. I hear that the current crop of D-Rat officials, and Union Officials are very concerned. I had a family member get into it with some of his local Union Officials. Uncle said he told the local Pres " You SOB, you wanted the n*gger, you got the n*gger , I hope you and the rest choke on him. " Uncle said he tried to tell them what Obunghole would do to them, but they did not believe it. "

Last I looked, the governor is a d-rat.

And I have been told that Logan WV, the town that said Hillary is not welcome there, is D-Rat territory.

But like I said before, I suspect the state is going to go GOP.

It has always amazed me that Obunghole bragged blatantly about bankrupting coal, and still won big in coal areas of WV, KY, etc. It is a testament to the blind loyalty & stupidity of democrat voters!

I suspect that there are at least a few that are waking up.

.... would never be President. He won't. Trump is a Mitt Romney clone... progressive NE libtard authoritarian, Bruce Jenner hugging, transsexual bathroom loving, wannabe global tyrant, but mostly a shill for the D wing of the party, Obama, Hillary, and Bernie Sanders.

I never supported Cruz, that's a figment of your imagination because you're stupid enough to believe that YOU have to choose between Trump or Cruz. You don't have to vote for either POS. They both equal Hillary, because they're both LOSERS!

You're a shill for Hillary. You deserve Hillary, but we don't.

Rush has always walked a thin line, trying to placate his listeners ( who pay the bills), and at the same time, carry water for his establishment buddies.

I always enjoyed listening to Rush. But make no mistake, he carries water for the establishment. He wants to be in the club, playing golf with them, being invited to & being the center of attention at their parties. When Bush Sr was in the WH, & Jr, Rush really enjoyed & relished being invited to the WH, staying in the Lincoln BR, etc, etc. He really liked dropping references to his socializing with them, and being part of the inside group.

I still remember when he at first warmed to Pat Buchanan, but turned on a dime, I suspect someone in the Bush camp got to him.

If you remember, at one time Mary Matlin was a frequent guest host. A lot of the listeners liked her. But when she married Carville the Snake, the listeners were very upset. That was the end of her setting in. It was just too in your face, the collusion of D's & R's.

I will continue to listen to him, I suspect you will too. I still think he has good analysis on a lot of topics.

But, a word of caution, be suspicious.

I will listen to him today. For sure. But that's just my schadenfreude kicking in.

Speaking of guest hosts, Mark Belling was also my favorite. Living in northern Illinois, I pick him up from Milwaukee all the time. But he is virulently anti-Trump, along with the other talk hosts at WISN. Trump did interviews with two of them when he was campaigning in Milwaukee, and they were brutal.

So, my eyes are opening and the list is growing. These people talk a good game but show their establishment leanings when a true patriot comes along. They utterly disgust me.

It became difficult to listen to Rush shilling for Cruz.

I've been a Rush fan since day one. I bought his books and have read them more than once. I tune in every opportunity I get. BUT, he lost me with his thinly-veiled support for Cruz.

A recent example of apologist Rush Limbaugh:

http://www.rushlimbaugh.com/daily/2016/05/03/ted_cruz_unloads_on_donald_trump_and_now_it_s_up_to_the_people_of_indiana

It was this morning on Fox & Friends, Donald Trump speaking with Ainsley Earhardt, who said, "Ted Cruz's father says people should vote with the body of Christ, and that needs to vote for his son. Do you think that resonates, Mr. Trump?"

TRUMP: His father was with Lee Harvey Oswald prior to Oswald's being, you know, shot. This is ridiculous. What is this, right prior to his being shot, and nobody even brings it up. They don’t even talk about that. That was reported, and nobody talks about it. What was he doing with Lee Harvey Oswald shortly before the death, before the shooting? It's horrible.

RUSH: All right, now, I know that there are several Trumpists who are gonna believe this and they're gonna defend it, like this brain-dead Trump supporter that Cruz crossed the street to talk to yesterday. Boy, if there was ever a big, red stop sign that says STOP and DON'T DO IT, it was yesterday. On... Well, what Cruz is trying to do... He wasn't trying to persuade that idiot Trump voter. He was trying to use the opportunity here to go viral on social media with a substantive issue response to this brain-dead Trumpists.

It didn't work out, 'cause the audio wasn't very good. You couldn't hear much of what was going on. All I could hear was the idiot Trumpists going, "Trump! Trump! Trump! Lyin' Ted! Lyin' Ted! Lyin' Ted!" Of course, it's what the media wanted everybody to hear. Of course it didn't have the desired effect.

And,

This guy was no different than a Code Pink protester, and so that's that.

It didn't work out because that idiot Trump voter bested Ted Cruz. The audio was just fine. Wat a lame excuse that was.

Rush was correct that Cruz, with deliberate calculation, decided to create a viral video to own a news cycle. Cruz succeeded at creating a viral video, but he was on the losing end of it.

It was rather akin to viewing The Rocky Horror Picture Show where a voice in the crowd fills in the spaces where dialogue is missing.

[Cruz] This country would be better off if (pause)
[Some dude] you weren't here.

[Cruz] A question that everyone here should ask (pause)
[Some dude] are you Canadian?

[Cruz] Do you want your kids repeating the words of Donald Trump?
[Missed opportunity] Make America great again.

In announcing Carly Fiorina as his VP pick,

And if I am nominated for President of the United States, I will run (pause) (long pause) a ticket (pause) (long pause) with my vice-presidential nominee, Carly Fiorina.

Normal humans do not talk that way. Cruz speaks as if his every word is part of a Princeton debate.

Cruz apparently spends half his waking hours looking at himself in a mirror, and practicing his canned little speeches and expressions. His speech on anything exhibits his deliberate and repeated insertion of a caesura (pregnant pause), and his ability to say anything and follow it with a weird rictus planted upon his face.

The "fawning lib media ... which gave Trump a pass during the primaries"??? Trump hates the media for a reason, and it's not because they're "fawning" over him.

Now, I suppose if you want to compare Trump's treatment by the media to his treatment by establishment Republicans, then yes, the lib media treated him better than his own party did.

It was similar to Richard Nixon's early morning visit with protesters at the Lincoln Memorial. That didn't go too well either.

What really pissed me off about that confrontation was Cruz's dishonesty. Cruz asked the guy why he liked Trump. The guy responded "immigration". Cruz then said that Trump told the New York Times that he had no intention of doing that.

Lie! Trump had an off-the-record interview with the New York Times in January, 2016. There is rumor and speculation about what Trump discussed. One of them is that Trump said he's not going to build a wall.

That is correct and has been evident as least s far back as the Bob Dole compaign. That campaign was dead and buried long before the November election, but Rush dutifully continued to wave his pom-poms. It was almost embarrassing.

What really pissed me off about that confrontation was Cruz's dishonesty.

Don't miss this one.

From Lyin' Ted to Sunglasses Man, a long debunked claim:

May I ask you something? Out of all the candidates, name one who had a million-dollar judgment against them for hiring illegal immigrants. Name one. Donald Trump is the only one.

Cruz, the attorney, surely knew his debunked charge was false. There never was a million dollar judgment. There was a judgment for $325,000 plus interest. The case involved a contractor (not Trump) who hired illegal Polish immigrants about 35 years ago. The litigation was very protracted.

The cited judgment was set aside and a new trial ordered. Trump never paid a dime of that $325,000 judgment.

The case started as Diduck v. Kaszycki & Sons Contractors, Inc. After the death of Diduck, the case proceeded with Hardy as the named complainant. The cited judgment (for $325,000) was issued in 1991, but was set aside in 1994.

In Hardy v. Kaszycki and Sons Contractors, Inc., No. 83 Civ. 6346 (KTD), 870 F. Supp. 489 (1994):

In the instant motion, there is a genuine issue of material fact that requires a trial to determine whether the Plaintiffs are entitled to restitution from the Trump Defendants. Specifically, the trier must determine whether the Trump Defendants were unjustly enriched by benefitting from Local 95's continued labor without making contributions to the Funds for the Polish workers.

The case was ended by a sealed settlement agreement in 1999, without judicial determination that the plaintiffs were entitled to any restitution from Trump.

So, my eyes are opening

My eyes have been open or years when it comes to control of the GOP by the rich.

But my eyes were really opened this campaign cycle regarding the "pro-life" aspect of the GOP. I was confused by the public reaction to Trump's rather obvious comment that if abortion were outlawed and a woman went and had an abortion, of course she would be punished. That this was controversial ON THE RIGHT bewildered me. It was actually right here on this board that a particular long-time poster, Too Conservative, suddenly crystallized it for me. "Pro-life" in Republican mouths is just a permanent campaign position, a thing they know will never happen, but that will always get them votes.

Trump's rather obvious comment that if abortion were outlawed and a woman went and had an abortion, of course she would be punished.

Of course, the punditocracy failed to note the hypothetical "if abortion were outlawed" and misrepresented Trump's response as being his opinion regarding current law or all cases.

Trump addressed the dishonesty of the pundits and the people moved on.

After more such nonsense the pundits found, to their dismay, that the people were not paying much attention to them any more.

Americans who have no experience with, or knowledge of, tyranny believe that only terrorists will experience the unchecked power of the state. They will believe this until it happens to them, or their children, or their friends.

I was confused by the public reaction to Trump's rather obvious comment that if abortion were outlawed and a woman went and had an abortion, of course she would be punished.

You are correct...Trump answered that question in 'black and white' terms. He answered the question as an owner CEO would answer it...very decisively. He answered the question in the frame of 'if I were king or emperor things would be this way.' He quickly realized if elected President he would not be an emperor or king and cannot make his own laws by fiat.

Trump then adjusted his view to not only let the woman off the hook for aborting a child but allowing such in cases of rape and incest. Which is not the Pro-Life plank at all.

The Pro-Life plank since Roe v. Wade has been to first and above all set the conditions to protect the life of the unborn human being; second to cut off abortion providers. The focus of the Pro-Life movement over the past 25 years given the liberal slant of society has been focused on the abortion providers. That has been a long slog but has produced results at varying degrees state by state.

Where Pro-Life groups such as the SBA List took note on Trump's original stance (punish the woman and provider) is that such an approach plays right in the hands of the liberal left message of 'war on women.' "It's all about punishing women."

SBA List as with many other Pro-Life movements view the woman getting an abortion in post-modern society as yet another victim. Victim to the lies perpetrated by the left politicians, NARAL, PP et. al.

I know you know the history of English Common Law. Even before Roe v. Wade and even going back to colonial America and even pre-colonial England, the fate of the woman who sought out an abortion was usually relegated to ecclesiastical authority. The one providing the means to the abortion is not so clear but if known I believe was dealt with in criminal court.

Mitt Romney is a Gordon Gekko clone.

A vote for Romney/Trump = Hillary/Chuck Schumer.

Nonsense. The networks make gobs of money by having Trump appear. Trump generates ratings.

We shall see.

How's that Hitlery indictment going?

I do. Which means that I know that under the Common Law, and until recent times in England, the ecclesial authorities were courts, with criminal adjudicative powers.

The Common Law grew up in a system with an established religion, in which church and state were, and in England still are, still merged. In America they were too, until independence, and then dropped off.

A woman punished by an ecclesiastical court was still being punished by the law. Part of the law was controlled by the King through the civil courts, which he controlled, and part of the law was controlled by the King through the courts of the Church, of which he was (and is) also the head.

The "separation of Church and state" is a French revolutionary idea, most strongly supported in America by Jefferson. It entered into American Common Law by practice due to the political neutrality struck by American politicians and judges given the division of Americans into hostile denominations, but it didn't enter into American Common Law philosophically until the late 19th Century.

What Trump said I agreed with. The twisting mouth rage that was expressed at him, and at me, by the American "pro-lifers", effected a break between me and them that is unlikely to ever be bridged again. They despise me, by their own words.

I was stunned for a moment. Then I opened my eyes to what they are. I do not get along well with hypocrites, and I have no interest in even trying.

My last cord to the Republican party was cut by them.

So, as it happens, I'm still a Republican, only because of Trump.

Take out Trump, and I'll go vote for the Democrats. Their concept of social welfare is not motivated by Christianity, but its effects are more Christian than anything that comes from the cannibals.

In the end I'm a practical man. But also, I am really not mean to people. When people really get vicious because of their political beliefs, I cut them off and forget about them, except when I see their silly-ass minoritarian stupidity go swirling down the toilet of defeat. Then I smile grimly as they get what they deserve. And go back to forgetting about them.

Which is where I am headed now. This was all very, very badly played, and it made me reflect about what's what.

Trump has stated his rape, incest and life of the mother exception for two years. That was nothing new to me.

James Comey of the FBI has not issued a report yet. Guccifer say he hacked Hillary's email account, after hacking Blumenthal.
