Drug that is 200 times more potent than heroin is sweeping Chicago

As rampant as the heroin epidemic has become, there is something new and even more dangerous.

By: Elizabeth Matthews

 Apr 13 2016

As rampant as the heroin epidemic has become, there is something new and even more dangerous.

A drug 80 to 200 times more potent than heroin is showing up all over Chicago. Overdoses from a synthetic form of fentanyl are being reported in most collar counties.

Users have been combining heroin and fentanyl for years. Fentanyl is much stronger than heroin and gives you a better high. But officials say there is a new form of fentanyl that may be catching users off guard.

“It’s monumental. I have never seen anything like it,” said Will County Coroner Patrick O’Neil.

Heroin overdose deaths are skyrocketing. In Will County, there were 53 heroin-related overdose deaths last year. This year, that number could double. So far, 18 people have died, with two of them after overdosing on synthetic fentanyl.

“We believe that the victims are out perhaps top buy heroin and this is being substituted for heroin and they are actually overdosing on it rather quickly,” said O’Neil.

O’Neil says synthetic fentanyl looks the same as heroin or prescription fentanyl.

Fentanyl is one of the most powerful painkillers on the market and is usually given to cancer patients through a patch or an injection.

A DEA official says the powerful synthetic form is often created in amateur labs, and is coming from China.

“Same affect chemically, structurally, a little bit different, but the same affect,” O’Neil said.

Stepping Stones is a treatment center in Joliet and serves several hundred people a year. Many of them are now being treated for heroin addiction.

“About a quarter of those or a little more are opiate addictions, mostly heroin, and the prescription pain meds ten years ago we would have a handful,” said Paul Lauridsen of Stepping Stones Treatment.

Now, synthetic fentanyl seems to be sweeping the market.

“When people don’t' know what they are getting and they get a hold of something like that, it's tragic,” Lauridsen said.

O’Neil says the topic of heroin addiction is hard to discuss, but is a must with all members of your family.

“Another disturbing issue age 16 the youngest victim that was claimed in our county by heroin all the way up to a 73-year-old grandmother,” O’Neil said.

Addiction is a disease

To feed one's addiction, rather than get help to stop, is a choice.

A government strong enough to impose your standards is strong enough to ban them.

Reports reveal ... Prince died from overdose --- of opioid fentanyl

Junho 11, 2016

Prince died from an overdose of a synthetic opioid called fentanyl the local medical examiner has found

On Thursday, Mauzy said his clients never delivered, dispensed or administered any medication to Prince. He weighed 112 pounds at the time of his death.

"The decedent self-administered fentanyl", the medical examiner's report said, listing cause of death as "fentanyl toxicity" and noting it was accidental.

Paramedics performed CPR but were unable to revive him, authorities said.

The untimely death of funk superstar Prince may have been prevented by addressing his opioid addiction much earlier, suggests the man who called 911 after finding the musician's lifeless body. Howard Kornfeld, an addiction treatment doctor has also stated he was in touch with Prince's representative the day before Prince died. According to CBS Minnesota, Andrew was in Minneapolis to consult with Prince on behalf of his father to draw up a plan on how he could treat his addiction. Illicit use is also a growing problem, the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration says: It is increasingly winding up in the wrong hands through pharmacy theft, fake prescriptions and illegal distribution by doctors and patients.

A prominent doctor says the death of Prince, pictured speaking at the NAACP Image Awards in Los Angeles in March 2011, will help raise awareness of the dangers of fentanyl and other powerful synthetic opioids. For manner of death, a box was marked for "accident".

The illegal distribution of fentanyl resulting in death carries a mandatory minimum 20 years behind bars in federal court. If it's the latter, someone could face criminal charges carrying years, even decades in prison. "If it wasn't prescribed?"

Fentanyl is a painkiller that is 50 to 100 times more potent than morphine, according to medical experts.

What's more, there are numerous ways to misuse and overdose on fentanyl, by applying multiple skin patches or eating one, Agrawal said.

"That would be something that you would know".

If the fentanyl was prescribed by a doctor, who got it for Prince? The medications were not specified in a search warrant for the Minnesota hospital that employed Schulenberg at the time.

On April 7, Prince postponed two performances at the Fox Theatre in Atlanta from his Piano & A Microphone Tour; the venue released a statement saying he had influenza. Billboard says no artist has had that many albums in the Top 10. With a slight smile, he jokes about having been "under the weather". His voice seems a bit weak at times while speaking, but sounds fine when singing during his 80-minute show.

First responders gave him a shot of Narcan, an antidote used in suspected opioid overdoses.

Prince was last seen on the eve of his death around 8pm at his compound in Paisley Park in Minneapolis. "Wait a few days before you waste any prayers", he tells fans.

The day before Prince died, his team called an eminent opioid addiction specialist in California seeking urgent help for the singer, an attorney working for the specialist and his son said. Unable to immediately fly to Minnesota, Kornfeld sent his son Andrew in an effort to convince the musician to seek long-term care at his Recovery Without Walls center in Mill City, California.

Prince Rogers Nelson, full name of Prince, died on April 21 after he was found unconscious in an elevator at Paisley Park. The tests were conducted by the Midwest Medical Examiner's Office, and they made the results public through a press release that they posted on their Twitter account.

Here's what the NIH says ...

Screw NIH and I will tell you why ...

I keep coming back to the addicts for factual testimony. In addition to the one I mentioned, there is James Frey who wrote about his experience as a addict. He said: "People need to get rid of the idea that addiction is caused by anything other than themselves." Frey took every drug from alcohol to crack and he scoffs at the claim that addicts’s brains compel them to stay on drugs. He says he wasn’t powerless.

There are many studies that show addicts recovering without professional help. I return to the Vietnam War example I gave earlier. There were literally thousands of soldiers who became addicted to heroin. Hundreds of these soldiers were tracked for three years after they returned home and 88 percent of those addicted to narcotics in Nam cut the addiction on their own.

The use of the word “disease” is important because it means “$$$$” in the pockets of those perpetuating the myth. If it is said that it’s a choice and not a disease, then insurance companies will not pay for that and a zillion clinics will go out of business. The desire for profits can usually be traced to the root of evils. We are talking about a $34 billion industry. It permeates through the entire spectrum. Even urine testing for drugs costs $2 billion per year and there is no established proof of efficacy.

You quote the NIH as an authoritative source. Let’s look at the NIH. You hear that vacuuming sound? That is the sound of the federal government sucking money out of your pocket to fund the nearly $32.3 billion annually that goes into medical research for things like researching addiction as a “disease.” Listen up and learn. More than 80% of the NIH's funding goes to 50,000 competitive “grants” where more than 300,000 researchers at more than 2,500 universities in every state and “around the world” to study addiction as a “disease” among other things. The NIH supports projects by hiring nearly 6,000 scientists in its own laboratories atn Bethesda, Maryland.

Can there be any wonder why the NIH continues to promote and show cause that addiction is a “disease?” If they were to call it a "choice," just think how much of $32.3 billion annually would go towards paying off the nation debt instead of lining the pockets of “researchers” to call addiction a “disease” and started calling addiction a “choice.”

So, you Paultard hypocrite … don’t you dare ever talk to me about a smaller government out of one side of your warped libertarian mouth and then sing the praises of NIH out of the other side for classifying addiction as a “disease.”

Screw NIH and I told you why ...

National Institutes of Health - a government site.

You two clowns are hilarious.

NIH has a $32.3 billion annual budget to waste on things like CONTINUING to study addiction as a "disease" ... they are the clown and the joke is on you and all taxpayers.

Remind us all again what field of medicine you have your degree in.

Remind us again Paultard, that you are a libertarian BELIEVING what the NIH as a branch of the federal government is saying and I will give you testimony that according to a recent Rasmussen poll, 81% of all Americans think that the federal government is corrupt.

It is unfortunate that you Paultards always go into a full prax-mode and treat libertarianism like a religion which closes your minds to the truth.

Yeah, we all get it - everyone who does not share your neanderthal views is a "libtard".

That shit's getting old pig boy.

What is not getting old is you Paultards so afraid of being wrong. That's probably why barely 10% of you voted for the last libertarian POTUS candidate. Your fall back position is that if your ideas can never be or have been tested, then they can never be wrong. Of course, your final fall back position is always that you can instantly wash their hands of any wrong by declaring it is not "true" libertarian. You Paultards are the assholes that only point out flaws, never provide solutions and never actually try to fix anything. You just want to show how bad something is. You always point to “government is bad” … but never to “something is good.” And now you are trying to say the NIH is good because they say something you agree with. Geeze …

There is certainly much more to addiction than neurochemistry - which further undermines the idea that we must have a War on Drugs burning tens of billions of taxpayer dollars every year, and channeling more billions into criminal hands, so that Americans won't get addicted.

A government strong enough to impose your standards is strong enough to ban them.

He got caught like a rat in his own trap. But it just goes to show that Paultard libertarians are posters who like winning arguments more than being correct. They are simple minded and therefore find it to be the easiest political philosophy to argue. How do I know this? Just look at any thread posted on LF and see a problem in the world with the economy, drugs, environment or anything. Then look at the Paultards’ posts. A Paultard will have an answer to the problem just by reading the headline, and it's always the same answer.

No. Tater argues his position because of pure bias. He was a do-nothing government worker for twenty years, never working a day in his life, and he is retired living on an infinite government stipend.

He has developed the same ol' bureaucratic sense of entitlement over and above us "common folk" or mere "riff-raff" and broadcasts his arrogant opinions daily as the Washington DC do-nothing bureaucrats that suck Americans dry of their hard earned tax dollars.

Do you understand tater, better?

NO, that is categorically and undeniably FALSE ... I do not have ONE!

I have a full size Donald Trump cardboard cutout standup in EACH room.

Also, we have breakfast together each morning and I place the full size (6'3") lifelike "Donald" in the passenger seat of my RR when I drive around Scottsdale. He gets a great number of double takes and waves.

No doubt it was the year I was born, that was a great moment in the hallmark of American history.

America needs a police state

Look around you, dipshit. If America was a police state, you wouldn't be allowed to be an asshole 24/7.

America needs a police state ...

What America really needs is two less Paultards ...

We find ourselves living in interesting times where among other consequences and for no good reason we have a few asshole Paultards. Their distaste for facts isn’t merely a ritual with these cranks; it's actually their libertarian doctrine. These crackpots are low key harmless and nothing but humorous footnotes to laugh about and poke fun at. They are of little importance since their ideology gets no more than 1% of the vote.

You are now officially crowned as chairman of the LF Trump "wet panty" brigade.

If America was a police state

"If"?

You gotta be the most ignorant mofo on this or any other forum.

Remember this in Boston?

And guess what? If Trump is elected you will see it become even more pervasive.

Of course, State-worshiping goons like you are supporting him for just that reason.

I know that Trump has caused any number of people to "pee in their panties" many times and it is an honor to be associated with his causing "wet panties on people who need enlightening."
