Title: Scott Walker Tries To Shift 2016 T-Shirts To Pay Off $1.2M Campaign Debt

Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker (R) could use a hand.

Still saddled with $1.2 million in debt by his unsuccessful campaign for the GOP presidential nomination, the Wisconsin governor sent a fundraising email to supporters asking them to help dig him out in exchange for a 2016 t-shirt.

“I cannot stand to see them go to waste,” Walker said in the fundraising email, noting that he was himself a “thrifty” shopper who liked to hit up sales racks for deals. Any supporter who donates $45 to his campaign earns a free shirt.

The downside for potential T-shirt recipients? The items they get might not fit. Walker said in his email that due to a “lack of resources,” the campaign no longer has the sizes or colors available that customers may request.

"When Matt and Alex were little and fighting over what color cup or toy they wanted, Tonette and I used to tell them 'you get what you get and you don’t get upset' and I guess that applies here too," the Wisconsin governor said consolingly in the email.

The Wisconsin governor told The Capital Times on Monday that his campaign had “a little fun” with the email. He said he was unsure how many t-shirts remained in stock.

"I don't have them in my basement, or anything like that," Walker told the newspaper.

The Wisconsin governor managed to rack up an astonishing deficit during his two-month tenure as a GOP candidate. In January, The Washington Post reported that Walker had managed to pay off an initial $1.4 million of his debt, much of which went towards former staff and unpaid vendors. That left him with the $1.2 million he still owes.

Screenshots of the fundraising email flagged by Capital Times reporter Jesse Opoien are posted below.

Raise those confederate flags!!!!

Gracie Mansion was once the home of Confederate general Archibald Gracie.

The Confederate battle flag flew at Elmont, NY next to the U.S. flag at the cemetery for the Confederates who died at the POW camp in Elmont. I doubt they still do that.

And the are some interesting mosaics embedded around NYC, hiding in plain sight.

They might have to redecorate the place.

And then there is the U.S. Army permitting the use of Confederate flags on Memorial Day, or Confederate Memorial Day.

Department of the Army
Pamphlet 290–5
Cemeteries
Administration, Operation, and Maintenance of Army Cemeteries

Headquarters
Department of the Army
Washington, DC
1 May 1991

2–7. Flags used on Memorial Day

a. The flag of the United States will be flown at half staff until 1200 and at full staff from 1200 to 1900.

b. On the workday immediately preceding Memorial Day, all cemetery graves will be decorated with small U.S. flags at Government expense.

c. A small Confederate flag of a size not exceeding that of the U.S. flag may be placed on graves of Confederates at private expense either on Memorial Day or the day when Confederate Memorial Day is observed. Those desiring to place such flags must agree in writing to absolve the Government from any responsibility for loss or damage to such flags, and agree to remove the flags as required by g below.

d. The U.S. flags will be placed on the graves in an upright position 1 foot to the front of, and centered with, the headstone or marker.

e. Confederate flags will be placed on the grave in the same position as U.S. flags except when displayed simultaneously with the U.S. flag. On such occasions, the Confederate flag will be placed 3 feet from the headstone or marker, and the height of the flag above ground will not exceed the height of the U.S. flag.

f. In case of group burials which are marked by one headstone, monument, or marker, only one U.S. flag will be used to decorate the grave. This restriction also applies to a Confederate flag.

g. Except as provided herein, U.S. flags will be removed from the graves on the first workday after Memorial Day. Confederate flags will be removed at private expense on the first workday following Memorial Day or the day observed as Confederate Memorial Day. If the flags are wet, they may be allowed to remain on the graves until dry.

h. Flags will not be permitted on graves except as outlined herein or as specifically authorized. Requests for exceptions to the above flag requirements will be submitted to the Superintendent, Arlington National Cemetery, together with recommendations and/ or justifications.
