A Texas youth pastor who was caught allegedly sexually abusing a 6-year-old child was beaten by witnesses who say they attacked him to stop the abuse, Fox4 reports.

Dallas police arrested Willie Lee Bell Jr., 29, who was a youth pastor at First United Methodist Church of Cedar Hill. Authorities say he lured the kindergartner behind an apartment, where he molested him. Bell is also implicated in a February sexual assault of two other children, Fox4 reports. All victims are aged 6 and 7.

“It’s painful. It’s devastating. It’s a nightmare,” the mother of a 6-year-old victim told the station.

She said her child was playing outside with other kids when Bell lured him behind a building.

Fox4 reports that court records show it’s not the first time Bell has been accused of sexually abusing children — he was accused of showing pornography to a child in Tennessee.

One victim told authorities that the man abusing him was wearing “church shoes.”

The mother, who asked her identity be withheld, said she was grateful for the intervention of witnesses.

“If it wasn’t for them, he probably would have done more to my child,” she told the station.

In a statement to Fox4, the church said it is cooperating with police.

I do not know what would be best: 1. Give the mother a ball bat with nails and let her have at it 2. Put him in open population with prisoners that hate child molesters 3. Smear animal female scent on him & put him in a cage with a horny gorilla 4. Feed him to sharks 5. Put him in a pool full of piranha's 6. Burn him at the stake.

Is there a restriction on all of the above?

Another sad and infuriating situation where a church probably saw signs but did not intervene, or did not do a proper background check.

I have always been suspicious of people who campaign or voice a desire to work with children specifically. From experience most had difficult childhoods or a history of being an abuse victim.

For some reasons a lot of churches recruit youth pastors from young adults. Not the best choice in my opinion.

I agree. My brother in law is a lay preacher, and he & my sister in law would agree with you completely!

The small church I attended as a teen had much older and experienced men and women tending the younger flock. Men and women with solid jobs, solid family who raised their own kids to adults and some of them with grand kids. That is what a youngster needs. Not some young person with limited experience in life.

Another thing I liked about that small church was the elders were not paid by the church but held their own jobs in the community. A senior elder was usually a fully retired elder who devoted his daily life to ministry and was only paid for things like gas for his car on long trips to visit shut ins.

He also was reimbursed if he bought groceries for the shut ins but never saw him take advantage of that.

I don't remember any of them EVER being alone with any kids that weren't their own, either. It was usually a man and a woman working together, but sometimes it would be two men or two women. The point being, they were never alone with any of the children. As far as that goes, the children were never alone, either. They were always a part of a group.

I'm not so sure that was to protect the kids from sexual abuse as it was to make sure there were two adults there in case of an emergency. One could stay with the group until their parents came, and one could go to the hospital/whatever with the sick or injured child.
