Two people are dead at Texas' Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland after reports of an active shooter there, the Bexar County Sheriff's Department said Friday morning on Twitter. The facility -- also known as Lackland Air Force Base -- is on lockdown, according to its Facebook page. The Sheriff's Department reported shortly before 9 a.m. CT that it was responding to a report of an active shooter at the Air Force facility in southwestern San Antonio. It reported the deaths about an hour later. "We have two dead at Lackland Air Force Base, deputies are still inside the building," the Sheriff's Department said on Twitter. Details about the shooting and whether a shooter still was at large weren't immediately available. The shooting was reported at the facility's Medina Annex, the base's Facebook page said. Lackland is where the U.S. Air Force conducts its basic training for enlistees. Lackland is one of three major military facilities -- the others being Fort Sam Houston and Randolph Air Force Base -- that merged to form Joint Base San Antonio in 2010.

Seemks unlikely. When I was there for basic training in the 70's, the only time we had any access to weapons was during the one time we had to qualify with the M-16. Hard to imagine how an airman basic could get his hands on a weapon. Then again, if the guy was not there doing basic training, I suppose it's possible. In a Cop Culture, the Bill of Rights Doesn’t Amount to Much It says nothing about the airman shooter being a basic trainee. In fact,since it was a squadron commander that was murdered,we can probably safely assume it wasn't. Basic trainees never even see squadron commanders,never mind get in arguments with and shoot them.
