As president, Donald Trump would sell off $16 trillion worth of U.S. government assets in order to fulfill his pledge to eliminate the national debt in eight years, senior adviser with the campaign Barry Bennett said. "The United States government owns more real estate than anybody else, more land than anybody else, more energy than anybody else," Bennett told Chris Jansing Sunday on MSNBC. "We can get rid of government buildings we're not using, we can extract the energy from government lands, we can do all kinds of things to extract value from the assets that we hold."

At last a semblence of reasonable economic policy, in a capitalist economy why does the government own these assets, doesn't it believe in free enterprise? and with the national debt gone the budget could be balanced without too much pain. Perhaps Dump can covert these assets into walls along the mexican border

It won't work because $300,000,000 isn't enough to pay for the escalating level of self indulgence and stupidity in this country for more than a week. The majority of people pay about 20% of their income as some form of tax. Social Security and and Medicare taxes apply, without deduction, to the first dollar earned, and everybody pays sales taxes and excise taxes when they buy things. There are also taxes on every phone call, taxes on energy use, taxes on water. If you own, you pay real estate taxes. If you rent short term you pay room taxes. There are taxes on everything. Income taxes only make up about 40% of total tax revenues. The majority of taxes AREN'T income taxes.

No economies work in the long run, because people are too cruel to each other and forget God, and sooner or later there is a reckoning. England, France, Ireland, Germany, Italy, Spain, Russia, China, Latin America - and America - sooner or later there is always a reckoning. The only question then is whether or not people learn anything from the horror. Generally they do, for a generation, but then the new generation comes, and the one after, and they do not remember, and individual ambitions become overwhelming, and customary favored seats become hard-wired by law, and the cruelty rises and rises until it stinks to heaven.
