Washington (CNN)Donald Trump escalated his feud with Ted Cruz on Twitter Tuesday — but this time he also involved the Texas senator's wife, who hit back on Wednesday at an impromptu press conference. The real estate mogul tweeted that the Texas senator should "be careful" or he would "spill the beans on your wife" Heidi Cruz.

Hmm. During her childhood only five percent of Slovenians were Communist party members and although her father did not advertise his political affiliation, it was obvious to neighbors and relatives. Can you imagine the wife of a potential POTUS being raised as an athiest communist during the Cold War? Things have sure changed... in America at least.

Yes, one's spouse/wife was an integral part of the security clearance process back then. Not sure about now. My friend went through it and passed. Trump doesn't have to "pass", when the people elect a President, the office of President, by nature of the office, is superior to and in command of the national security authority. The President has the power, of his office, to know the national secrets if he so chooses. He is the supreme originating authority. The military and the CIA work for him. He cannot sell national secrets, but he cannot be denied access to anything just because some underlings - and that means every single person in the national security establishment - doesn't like his politics. If the people elect a full-on Communist, then that full-on Communist has the right, of office, to access to everything. The people have, in effect, vetoed the national security establishment's rules, because the President commands the national security establishment. Put differently, the President might normally be denied a security clearance, but the office of President automatically trumps any rule that would deny him access to the information. If we elect a Communist Commander-in-Chief, then a Communist has our secrets. The CIA and NSA work for the President and cannot deny him access, by virtue of his office. That's just the way it is. The rules that apply to normal people do not apply to the Commander-in- Chief, by the fact that he is the Commander-in-Chief. There are people who think that national security trumps even the President. They are wrong, because the President is the final authority of what IS national security. The whole military and national security establishment may violently disagree with him, but they are his inferiors and must obey him, unless he orders them to do something illegal. And for them to refuse to give him the access to which his office entities him because they, the underlings, don't like his politics - THEY have done something illegal, and can be fully prosecuted or court-martialed for insubordination. Some general's or bureaucrat's idea of what national security is never trumps the President's. The official can resign, but if he disobeys, he can be punished.

And it's THEIR culture, and it's none of OUR business what statues people put up in Moscow and who the Russians think are national heroes. We are going broke as a nation and falling apart. We do not have the luxury to be worrying about Russian tastes in statuary. It's none of our business. We don't rule the world. We never did, and we most certainly never will. We reached the high water mark of our power in the late 1940s. We are still an important nation, but we no longer stand astride the world like a colossus because of a series of strategic errors we made. We didn't have to make them, but we did. We cannot afford to be pretending we're the master of the world anymore. We're not. So, if you're worried about Russian culture, you would be better suited to worry about American culture. We are not strong enough, or rich enough, or powerful enough, or well organized enough, to pretend that what the Russians do in their own country is any affair of ours, or that we have anything to say about it. It's not. We don't. Let it go. In the Cold War, massive armies and arsenals were pointed at each other. That is not true anymore are all. There are times when I wish Trump would shut his mouth and stick to criticizing his adversaries on their ridiculous positions on the major issues to beat them bloody. This is one of those times.
