Mitt Romney has recorded robocalls for Republican presidential candidate Ted Cruz 97% ahead of Arizonas primary and Utahs caucuses on Tuesday, The Daily Caller has learned. The Cruz campaign says the robocalls were dropped in Arizona today and will go out in Utah tomorrow.
Hello, this is Mitt Romney, the robocalls begin. And Im calling to ask you to join me in supporting Ted Cruz for president this Tuesday in the Utah Republican caucuses. This is the time for Republicans across the spectrum to unite behind Ted. He is the only Republican candidate who can defeat Donald Trump, and at this point a vote for John Kasich is a vote for Donald Trump.
Romney says: Ted Cruz has spent his life defending the Constitution and the Bill of Rights, and hell fight to bring back jobs to America and raise wages for everyone. Ted will be a strong commander in chief who will keep America safe.
Ill be voting for Ted Cruz this Tuesday, and Id encourage you to do the same thing, it ends. Ted Cruz Would Absolutely Go After Hillary Clinton If Elected President
Announcing his support for Cruz in the Utah caucuses on Friday, Romney suggested hes actually less interested in Cruz being the nominee and more interested in seeing some Republican other than Trump getting the nomination at an open convention. Romney and Cruz, in the past, have spoken critically of each other.
The only path that remains to nominate a Republican rather than Mr. Trump is to have an open convention, Romney wrote in a Facebook post. At this stage, the only way we can reach an open convention is for Senator Cruz to be successful in as many of the remaining nominating elections as possible.
