WASHINGTON Democratic National Committee Vice Chair Tulsi Gabbard resigned from her post on Sunday to endorse Democratic presidential candidate Bernie Sanders, following months of rising tensions within the group.
"I think its most important for us, as we look at our choices as to who our next commander in chief will be, is to recognize the necessity to have a commander in chief who has foresight, who exercises good judgment," Gabbard, a U.S. representative for Hawaii, said on NBC's "Meet the Press."
Gabbard, one of five vice chairs, and her committee colleagues have butted heads over a thin debate schedule in the months leading to Democratic voting contests for the party's nomination, with Gabbard calling for the group to add more debates to the calendar.
Sanders, a U.S. senator from Vermont, is competing with former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton for the Democratic nomination to run for president on Nov. 8. Critics have said the scheduling of the debates has favored Clinton, who is better known than Sanders and is favored to win the nominating contest.
Committee Chair Debbie Wasserman Schultz issued a statement accepting Gabbard's resignation, calling her a friend and praising the active-duty veteran for her service in the armed forces.
"Congresswoman Gabbard is a role model who embodies the American ideal that anyone can dream big and make a difference," Wasserman said in the statement.
"She is also a colleague in Congress and a friend, and I look forward to continuing to work alongside her when our Party unites behind whoever emerges as our nominee."

What she's saying is that Hillary lacks foresight, and exercises bad judgment.
I don't like her pick for president, but she's got guts to oppose the DNC lesbian warmonger mafia.
Well,I guess we now know who one of the leading candidates for the Dim nomination next time will be. She is hooking her wagon to the young socialists and various other airheads that support Bernie who will be 78,82,or dead come the need for the next Dim candidate, and there she will be. Their generation, attractive,a female war veteran, and a Dim that supported socialism early.
Smart political career move on her part that MAY even lead to a VP slot this time.
If she's the one I think she is, she's basically a female/democrat counterpart to Ron Paul. She's stated excellent positions and perceptions in the past.
If Sanders does lose to Hillary, she may very well endorse Trump.

That doesn't mean she isn't making a smart move, here. In fact,it may be PROOF she is making a smart move by stepping out on her own because the bankers that own the DNC were not about to allow her anywhere near actual power and public appeal if she is as Libertarian as you suspect. Hell, the alleged Republicans are more Libertarian than the Dims. The Dims all seek to either be strong masters with a whip,or be under the domination of strong masters with whips.
If Sanders does lose to Hillary, she may very well endorse Trump.
That would be a serious mistake. The GOP is no more likely to allow her any access to an actual seat of power than the Dims.
IMHO,she would be better off staying in the Dim fold where she can count on owning the knee-jerk support of the left because of her gender and the magical "D" behind her name. If she can't gain any traction there during the NEXT presidential contest, she can always switch parties just as it is getting started, and pretty much claim a VP slot on the ticket by default because of the Dim votes she would bring with her. Maybe even the top slot if she plays her cards right.
Timing is everything, though. If she switches parties now,she will be buried by the politicians now who will see her as a upsurter and threat to their own political power. If she waits and springs it on everybody as the next campaign season starts, there is no way they could bury her. She would have spots on every tv talk show in the nation, and they would be begging her to appear.
