Title: Cruz Speculates Trump’s Tax Returns Could Show ‘Dealings with the Mob’

Sunday on ABC’s “This Week,” Republican presidential candidate Sen. Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) discussed his opponent Donald Trump not releasing his taxes during an audit and suggested he is “hiding” something including “business dealings with the mob, with the Mafia.”

Partial transcript as follows:

STEPHANOPOULOS: You’ve made a big issue of Donald Trump’s taxes, now released summaries of your own returns. If he releases those some kind of summaries, will that be enough?

And — and what do you think of his — his statement that he believes he might be targeted by the IRS because he’s a Christian.

CRUZ: Well, I — I think his statement, nobody who heard it had any reaction other than laughter. Listen, I’ve released now nine years of taxes. Donald Trump has not released any of his tax information. He needs to release his tax information. And — and the fact that he’s refusing to do so really suggests, as Mitt Romney pointed out, that there may be a bombshell in there, that there’s something he’s hiding. Now — now, it could be an awful lot of media…

STEPHANOPOULOS: What do you think it is?

CRUZ: — outlets have reported — well, a lot of media outlets have reported that he doesn’t make nearly as much money as he says he does. You know, who knows, maybe — maybe the — the fact is that Mitt Romney is richer than Donald Trump. We don’t know. But — but he’s clearly hiding something. On the other hand, it could be donations to liberal groups like Planned Parenthood. At every debate, it seems, he praises Planned Parenthood. Maybe he’s written them a bunch of checks. Or — or, you know, maybe there are other issues. You know — you know, for example, there have been multiple media reports about Donald’s business dealings with the mob, with the Mafia. Now maybe his tax returns show that those business dealings are a lot more extensive than has been reported…

STEPHANOPOULOS: Business dealings with the Mafia?

CRUZ: We don’t know — indeed. ABC has reported that. You guys have reported that he’s — he’s done deals with S&A Concrete, which was owned by two of the big crime families in New York, and that he’s had involvement in Atlantic City. Maybe that’s what his tax returns show. We don’t know, but the important point is, George, in the general election, Hillary Clinton is going to shine a light on all of this. And Republican primary voters deserve to know. And the media is going to amplify the Democrats’ attacks a thousand fold. The Republican primary voters deserve to know if there’s a scandal, if there is, at Mitt Romney put it, a bombshell in Donald Trump’s taxes, we deserve to know, the voters deserve to know and to vet the candidates.

Anybody doing business in NJ/NY/NYC has to deal with the mob, either the italian mob/unions or the jewish mob/bankers/realestate. If Cruz had ever run a business, he'd know that.

Trump wants to be a serious candidate for president, and has the numbers to back it up, he must be vetted like a serious candidate for president.

Nice non sequitur . I don't support Hillary . Hillary's mismanagement and lies about Benghazi ,and Trump's business relationship with the mob are disqualifiers for the Presidency IMO.

In my opinion, none of the candidates since I have been voting (1974) could survive a serious, impartial vetting.

Asking Trump, alone, to pass your test or be disqualified is unfair.

And if Cruz can divert attention to his fantasy smears and conjectures of Trump, he can avoid being vetted like a serious candidate for president. He isn't a serious candidte for president and never has been. He's serious about wanting to be president, but is unqualifed. All he has done is march in across the border with demands to be president. If he can sell his BS to enough people through constant repetition, he's home free.

He bought property that was said to be twice market value from someone who is said to be in the mafia.

Yawn.

Much more than that . That was only part of his Atlantic City dealings . His NYC dealings were more extensive .The construction companies he employed were mob run . His lawyer had direct dealings with the mob (the famous Roy Cohen) . The fact that he was able to bring in Polish non-union laborers for contruction without the local labor unions making a big deal about it was mob related.

Trump's former "senior adviser " ,Felix Sater, who played a role in a number of high profile Trump projects ,served prison time and has documented mafia connections(pleaded guilty in 1998 to racketeering in a fraud scheme involving the Genovese and Bonanno crime families ).Trump denied knowing him even though there is photographs of the 2 together at the launch of his SoHo Hotel and Condominium project. Trump lied about his relationship with Sater under deposition “If he were sitting in the room right now, I really wouldn't know what he looked like.”

Sater avoided more serious jail time when he turned state witness after NY Attorney General Loretta Lynch recruited him as an informant. In 2013, the BBC pressed Trump asking why he didn’t say “You’re fired!” to Sater after reports surfaced alleging Sater had ties to organized crime .Trump cut the interview short and walked out .

You care. The Democrats will care. Most people really don't care.

The politicians and Goldman Sachs steal money legally, but that difference between "legal" and "illegal" doesn't impress people on the ground who are victims of both. If you live in the NYC area, or in New Jersey, or in places like Detroit, you know people, or went to school with people, who are either mobsters themselves, or were connected with the mob.

Anybody who ever bought pot had a transaction with the mob in some sense.

Everybody is a couple of degrees of separation from the mob. And everybody encounters the cops and the IRS.

And most people hate the IRS and fear the cops much more than they fear the mob.

The whole Union movement is mobbed up, which means that the Democrats get major support from the mob. If a NY Real Estate developer can get some of that support for the GOP side, that's a good thing.

Our CIA finances its criminal operations abroad by trafficking drugs into this country. The CIA is ITSELF a mob.

So, Trump has dealt with the mob. So have most of us, in some capacity, professionally or personally, at some point in our lives.

SO WHAT?

Nobody cares except for hypocritical moralists OR people who are so completely sheltered and puritanical that they are not like the rest of us.

It's like going after somebody for having had pre-marital sex, or going after somebody for having drunk while underage, or for having used pot at some point in life, or going after people who shaved a few points off of their taxes on business expenses, or people whose expense reports were imperfect, or who stole a pen from the office, or who speed, or who look at porn.

You come to a level where people do not care that other people are sinners or petty criminals, because everybody is a sinner and a petty criminal. People get a lot more worried about people who take a puritanical attitude about that sort of thing, as though they are not themselves sinners and petty criminals.

If they really aren't, they're saints, and saints are famously uninterested in politics. Saints are often tormented by inner guilt over the sins they know they have, and they don't presume to judge anybody.

People who stand and say "J'accuse!" and expect some petty accusation like "A NYC, Atlantic City and Las Vegas real estate developer has dealt with the MOB!" (HEAVENS FORFEND!) to really have an effect are scary. The rest of us don't like people like that.

It's Ted Cruz' problem, really. As a prosecutor, he was relentless, and even when evidence was discovered that convicts may have not been guilty, he fought to the death to keep them locked up to respect the "process".

That's the mindset of a Pharisee, and people don't want to be ruled by Pharisees. We're imperfect. We're sinners. And we really, truly DO NOT CARE that other men and women are sinners. We know it. We shrug our shoulders. WE are not God. WE are not the judges.

The question is: does this man's or woman's crimes and sins rise to the level that it will make them bad as rulers? Hillary's do. Trump's don't. Cruz may not have any serious crimes or sins, but his Pharisaic, puritanical and absolutist mindset makes him unacceptable to a country of sinners who simply do not want the GOVERNMENT to hold them accountable for every sin or crime they committed. Enforce the BIG STUFF (like revealing national secrets and getting people killed), and otherwise, leave us alone.
