If the US wants to pay cheap mexican labour to construct a wall, it an ample mexican workforce on its side of the border, it can divert its aid payments to those people. the US has the ability to regulate banking and the transfer of money but surely using a bully approach is poor policy. And remember,these figures were based on the purchasing power of the dollar in 1967 and in 1999,NOT 2016 dollars. 40 MILLION dollars was a lot of money back when you could buy a new 3 bedroom brick house for less than $20,000 in most cities,and a new fully equiped Impala,Galaxie,or Fury for 2 grand at any dealership in the country. And that's not even counting the 12 Million he got in trust from his grandfather. People were raising families,buying new homes,and sending their children to college with just the father working,and earning less than 5 dollars an hour. Compare the purchasing power of the money and property values left to him by his father and grandfather at the time when he got it compared to the purchasing power of the actual cash he has today,and he has less money now than he did back then. I asked bro if his wife is working; he said she didn't have to other than to manage and keep track of her holdings/properties/investments...and take care of the two little boys (future trust fund kids). In other words, her holdings (trust fund) make more money than she could working as a full-time lawyer. I didn't pry other than ask him that question. For his sake, I hope they stay married forever.
