A Fresno police officer just testified that officers from his department gunned down a suicidal veteran, even though their lives were never in danger at all. The testimony came as part of a federal civil rights case from the 2012 police shooting of a suicidal Marine veteran. The testifying cop was the lone officer who refused to fire his weapon, because – he explained – there was no reason for anyone to shoot the suicidal man. The four other officers who killed the man, he explained, did so wrongly, and in spite of the fact that they were in no danger, reports the Fresno Bee. Charles Salinas was a distraught veteran who has called 911 for help. He said that he had a gun and was going to shoot himself. He never threatened anyone but himself, and it was clear that he was crying out for help from the police. Instead, he was gunned down by the Fresno County officers who shot at him 22 times. They hit him with 11 of those rounds, saying that they “feared for their lives.” McCahill’s contradicted the testimony of Sanger police Sgt. Jason Boust and officers Preston Little and Angela Yambupah all of whom gunned down the suicidal veteran with their AR-15 rifles. McCahill said that when he showed up, Salinas was sitting unarmed in a flower bed. He was talking to officer Robert Pulkownik, but Salinas never held a weapon or threatened officers. He only refused to come out and surrender. Officers Boust, Little and Yambupah showed up and aimed their ARs at the veteran who he said “was having a bad day” and wanted to die. The patient officer said that his colleagues kept shooting at Salinas while he was on the ground. One of the bullets fired at him at that time hit him in the head. McCahill said this was a “nonlethal situation” that posed no threat to the officers who responded. Watch the video from the Fresno Bee below…

It is good to read an occasional story about a hero police officer who stands up for what is right.
Seconded. Though that alone doesn't make him a hero. Or shouldn't.
It does to me. Anybody that goes up against anyone with a seme-auto rifle while armed with only a handgun is a freaking hero. Especially in situations like this where it is the cop with the handgun closing in on the guy with the rifle Assaults are always more dangerous than defense.
My comment was referring to the officer that went on record to claim his 3 partners who shot a suicidal vet to death were never in any danger.

I think that cop showed as much courage as the cop that killed the murderer. Given the institutional mindset in police forces and the threats he may face from his fellow cops,that cop that stood up for justice instead of helping provide cover for his fellow cops that may be guilty of manslaughter at a minimum places hm in a hero category in my book. He knows that after that if he ever gets in trouble while on patrol or making an arrest and calls for help,chances are he's on his own. And this is assuming that not a single of of his fellow cops won't try to actively kill him if the circumstances present themselves that would allow him to get away with it. No organization today is more clannish that cops. They cover for each other in almost every circumstance,and never consider fellow cops that won't or don't as traitors.
