dog-and-cop-save-woman's-life

Germantown, WI — An incredible story from Friday morning starts out with a black lab named John Boy, approaching a police officer.

Germantown police officer, Jeff Gonzalez deserves credit for not only refusing to do what so many other cops do when dogs approach them, but actually getting out in the freezing weather to see why this dog was loose.

“He stood there and barked a little bit, then I rolled down my window and called to him. Then he wagged his tail and got more friendly until I got out of my car. And then he ran a little bit,” said Gonzalez.

John Boy was seemingly trying to get the officer’s attention in an effort to help his owner.

“Yeah, he sure did. He pointed me in the right direction,” said Gonzalez.

John Boy led the officer up the street to a house where his owner, Krystal, was unresponsive. Krystal, who suffers from a heart condition, was slumped over in a chair outside her front door, still in her pajamas. It was dangerously cold out.

“To be honest with you, I thought she was dead. And when I went up, she was very cold to the touch; her lips were blue. But I was able to determine she was breathing and had a pulse. I called for assistance, and my partner was close. So together we got her in the house,” said Gonzalez.

“Basically what he told me was, he said that they thought that she was dead. So it’s hard,” said Tianne Wendt, Krystal’s daughter about the initial call from officer Gonzalez.

Thanks to this miraculously loyal dog and a police officer who defied the odds, Krystal is now in stable condition in a local hospital and John Boy didn’t freeze to death. This unlikely duo has transformed potential tears of sadness into tears of joy.

As if that wasn’t amazing enough, the family told Fox 8 News that they adopted John Boy. He was returned three times by three different families prior to ending up in the home of the owner whose life he would eventually save.

" Wonderful story! "

Yes it is !!

There are probably some that will be pissed off that the cop did not shoot the dog, and the woman. LOL

Seriously, Labs are incredible dogs. I have had several, and have one now. They are great !!

Thanks Fred, interesting article.

I do really love Labs. They are wonderful, very intelligent, playful, & loving. If you have kids, you could not ask for a better dog. They have wonderful temperaments.

Since I was a kid, I have had a number of dogs, mostly mutts - strays that came in, or rescued from the pound. I have only had one pure bred, a Lab. I still miss him. He was a wonderful friend that I raised from a pup. But to be honest, I still miss them all, each & every one.

I had a border collie that passed a little over a year ago. A really sweet dog, and I miss him greatly. I only hope that I gave them all as much love & joy, as they gave me! Some would say that I get too attached to them, but it is what it is.

I tell friends that decide that they want a dog, to go to the local pound, and select one that is " running out of time ". After living as a stray, little to eat, etc, and then you come along and give them a good loving home, you will have a very loyal friend, and the satisfaction that you saved its life.

I have had a dog since I was 8 years old, and will have them until the day I die. I think more of dogs, than most people I have known.

BTW, do you know what DOG spelled backwards is ?

A true story about a black lab. This dog had a personality nobody could help but like. About half a mile away was a small business district with several bars. People would let him into the bars where he was welcomed for enjoyable companionship. Eventually someone said, I wonder if he would drink beer like the rest of us. They offered him a saucer of beer and he drank it. He liked it! It got to the point where he would leave the house at 7:30 and make rounds at the bars for saucers of beer. Later in the evening he'd come staggering home shitfaced and the owners would let him sleep it off in a small vestibule.

Beer produced enormous quantities of gas in this dog. He'd lay on the floor, sleep, snore, and fart all night. When they opened the door to the vestibule the next morning, the room was so thick with accumulated farts that if you lit a match in there, the room would explode. I don't know what eventually happened to him. He was a very happy dog who liked everybody.

Yes, that is a common trait with all Lab's I have ever known.
