Everyone hates vaping, and they hate it for no good reason. Like all the other things that were once considered a fringe of teen culture, vaping is going mainstream.

Duncan Hunter, a Republican Congressman from San Diego, made this point this morning when he, the elected representative of California’s 50th District, vaped-while-legislating on the floor of the United States House of Representatives, according to Gawker.

Hunter’s vape-sesh occurred during a discussion by the Congressional Transport Committee over whether or not vaporizers should be permitted on airplanes. Hunter, an ex-smoker who used a vaporizer to quit using cigarettes, argued that vaporizer technology is revolutionizing the way people quit smoking.

“Smoking has gone down as the use of vaporizers has gone up,” he explained. "There’s no burning, there’s nothing noxious. This has helped thousands of people quit smoking, it helped me quit smoking. And in the next decade, you’re going to be able to inhale your ibuprofen, your Prozac, and anything else you need drug wise."

Hunter continued: “For freedom’s sake, and for the sake of people who are trying to quit smoking, and quit dipping, and still have nicotine, I would urge my friends here and colleagues to oppose this amendment.”

His friends and colleagues didn’t see it this quite way, and chose to vote in favor of the amendment. It looks like there won’t be any vaping on planes anytime soon.

That's what I like ,Statemen conducting themselves in accordance with the dignity of their position . Yes I know he did it for the political theater and not because of a lack of control . Still you see in the open halls of Congress ,one of his colleagues was concerned enough to wave the vapor away from him . On a plane ,in tight spaces ,I would ask him not to vape . If he persisted ,I may be tempted to administer it to him as a suppository .

Vaping some propylene glycol with light nicotine is much much safer, for the smoker and for others. There really is no significant second-hand smoke factor at all. No dust and ash, no stinky clothes, no carbon monoxide, none of the 7000+ chemicals found in actual burning tobacco.

Smoking finally fell below 15% this last year. Because so many people have switched to vaping. And one thing that encourages them to do so is that they no longer have to admit they are a smoker for health insurance and there is far less social stigma to vaping compared to smoking.

Vaping has expanded considerably. You can even vape alcohol in the last five years or so. Like with products like the Vaportini (under $50 or you can make your own for a few bucks). No hangovers, you get over being drunk in an hour or so because your stomach isn't full of alcohol that keeps you drunk for hours. Inhaling the alcohol lets you get very drunk but your liver can process it out of your body very quickly if you stop vaping it. Also, virtually no calories are consumed.

Obviously, I like Duncan Hunter's opinions here. Very cool, very hip with the yout's. The GOP badly needs to connect with them on some issues so I think Hunter is doing yeoman's work here for the GOP.

Yeah, the calorie thing! That's why I quit drinking.

Honest. We all know being drunk mellows you out and makes you more reasonable, right?

I do know drinkers who lost a bit more weight from giving up drinking (a lot) and credited some of it to stopping drinking, especially beer.

There has never been a drunk in all of history that quit drinking to lose weight.

I can see it with casual drinkers, especially women, but not with drunks.
