Donald Trump has claimed Ted Cruz committed “fraud” in his successful campaign to win the Republican Iowa caucuses on Monday, and has called for a new election. The businessman, who came in second in Iowa, tweeted:

— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) February 3, 2016

Based on the fraud committed by Senator Ted Cruz during the Iowa Caucus, either a new election should take place or Cruz results nullified.

Earlier, Trump accused Cruz of “stealing” the election in the key state, the first to vote in this stage of the 2016 presidential election.

— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) February 3, 2016

Ted Cruz didn't win Iowa, he stole it. That is why all of the polls were so wrong and why he got far more votes than anticipated. Bad!

He accused the Cruz campaign of telling Iowa voters that fellow candidate Ben Carson was quitting the race so he could steal Carson’s votes.

“During primetime of the Iowa Caucus, Cruz put out a release that @RealBenCarson was quitting the race, and to caucus (or vote) for Cruz,” Trump wrote. “Many people voted for Cruz over Carson because of this Cruz fraud. Also, Cruz sent out a VOTER VIOLATION certificate to thousands of voters.

“The Voter Violation certificate gave poor marks to the unsuspecting voter (grade of F) and told them to clear it up by voting for Cruz. Fraud.”

He added that “Cruz strongly told thousands of caucusgoers (voters) that Trump was strongly in favor of Obamacare and ‘choice’ – a total lie!”

Cruz had issued an apology of sorts to the Carson campaign for spreading the rumor on election night that Carson was dropping out of the race, which Cruz characterized as an honest “mistake”: Sign up for the Campaign Minute - the election condensed every day Read more

“Last night when our political team saw the CNN post saying that Dr Carson was not carrying on to New Hampshire and South Carolina, our campaign updated grassroots leaders just as we would with any breaking news story,” Cruz said in a statement on Tuesday.

“That’s fair game. What the team then should have done was send around the follow-up statement from the Carson campaign clarifying that he was indeed staying in the race when that came out.”

In addition, the Texas senator and his presidential campaign were formally denounced by top state officials for sending mailers to Iowa voters accusing them of a “voting violation” – in an apparent effort to scare voters to the polls.

The mailers included a voting score and included the phrase “official public record”. They referred to the recipients by name, and also their neighbors, as part of a broader attempt to shame them for not having participated in prior elections.

Some campaign observers criticized Trump for decrying what was simply politics as usual. Stuart Stevens, a former strategist for 2012 Republican candidate Mitt Romney, wrote: To beat John McCain in South Carolina in 2000, the George W Bush campaign used a Bible professor to spread a rumor that “McCain chose to sire children without marriage”. Lee Atwater helped George HW Bush beat Michael Dukakis in 1988 by cutting a racist commercial tying Dukakis to a rape and stabbing by convicted murderer Willie Horton while on furlough.

Trump fights.

This is the great thing about him.

Truth is, we tolerate lies in politics that ARE criminal fraud in business. If Cruz's campaign were a business and published what they published regarding Carson in a business context, they would be sued, and Carson would win.

There is no right to deceive people to cause them to sign a contract or take an action.

Politicians exempt themselves from their lies, but Trump is a businessman, and he is holding a politician, Cruz, accountable for his organization's lies. He is holding a politician accountable to the higher BUSINESS standard of honesty.

And that's great, because America DESERVES to have its politicians held to the same standard of honesty that the laws the politicians pass hold every one of US to.

This sort of fighting is great, because there's no damned reason why the people should have to settle for lies from politicians as "business as usual".

Cruz may be the first politician in modern history to actually be held ACCOUNTABLE for lying to "win". (And what did he "win"? One more delegate than Trump and Rubio. woo hoo.)

If Trump is the nominee, Hillary will be the second politician held accountable for her lies, because he will call her a liar to her face, repeatedly, in open debate and open mikes. The media has covered for her, but they can't bleep out Trump.

Now, we all KNOW that Hillary is a liar. Did you hear the DEMOCRATS chanting "Hillary's a liar!" in the Bernie Sanders events? We all know it, but nobody says it in a forum where she cannot escape.

Trump will stand there in a televised debate and call her a liar to her face, over and over, and she won't be able to run away, and the media will have to show it.

Trump didn't LOSE anything.

Caucuses are not "first past the post" or "winner take all". People get delegates proportionally. Cruz got 8. Trump and Rubio got 7.

Cruz's organization tweeted a lie to try to induce voters to vote for Cruz, since Carson was supposedly "out". That's fraud.

Trump is right to call attention to it and to hammer Cruz on it.

Get your facts straight for once. It was CNN that first reported that Carson was heading to Florida, not Cruz. The Cruz campaign just repeated what CNN reported albeit with a little bit of spin.

Trump the Turd is showing. If he keeps this up (which he likely will) he will also lose New Hampshire as well. I wonder who he will blame then?

It was CNN that first reported that Carson was heading to Florida, not Cruz. The Cruz campaign just repeated what CNN reported albeit with a little bit of spin.

CNN initially reported on their website that Carson was suspending his campaign. Later, they changed it and ran it as "Carson taking a break from campaign" on their on-air chyron graphics. They didn't really provide much in the way of corrections for some time.

Steve King apparently was the one trying to fan the Carson-quit flames, more so than Cruz's own staffers.

Doesn't everyone have cellphones now? How hard is it for Carson's precinct captains to call their campaign handlers to get the straight scoop?

Carson was whining last night that his wife got up to speak at a precinct right after some Cruz supporter told them that Carson had dropped out. Well, okay. But Carson couldn't cite any of his supporters switching to someone else or just going home.

In the precincts, the precinct captains for every candidate have a chance to speak and can say anything they want. They often do. They can repeat rumors about Canadian anchor babies, candidates dropping out, etc.

Even if a few Carson supporters switched to Cruz, you can't prove they weren't already edging toward a switch anyway. It was obvious Carson had peaked way too early and wasn't going to win anything because he's a lousy speaker and a poor retail pol. Also, it became apparent in the last month that Carson simply has no real organization anywhere else in the country. He was all-in for Iowa and nowhere else. His campaign, like Herman Cain in 2012, looked a lot like a book tour or a job application to get a show on Fox News, like Huckabee did in 2009. All Carson does is raise money on Facebook, not build a real national campaign.

I see Palin is Facebooking again today.

Dirty Politics: Witnessing Firsthand It's Always Heartbreaking, Never Surprising

Thank heavens Donald Trump opened so many eyes to the lies, corruption and total lack of accountability that come so naturally to the permanent political class. And Sen. Ted Cruz was spot on when he once noted that "millions of Americans are asking for accountability and truth." Which is why it's so curious - and saddens us - this lack of accountability with the lies of Cruz's own campaign.

Cruz's campaign chairman, U.S. Representative Steve King, is lying, and good for Dr. Ben Carson for calling this out. King, who's previously asked for and received my endorsement, time and resources to support his own election, is still lying about my altruistic support of Mr. Trump, and he's refused to provide any evidence to the contrary. And, this U.S. Congressman actually lied to his own constituents on behalf of Cruz, regarding a good man, Dr. Carson. He told voters Carson was dropping out of the Presidential race immediately before the Iowa caucus, causing a relative uproar inside the process, so the word would spread and he could rack up more votes for his candidate, Cruz. That's a dirty trick. Dr. Carson deserved better. The voters deserved better!

Where is the accountability for these political actions? Very sad; typical Washington tactics. THIS is why "the status quo has got to go."

Our friend Dr. Carson put it so well:

"As Christians, of course we accept people’s apologies, we also have to ask ourselves is this acceptable to us, the American people, or should there be some accountability? There should be some consequences for things. You don’t just say ‘oh, okay, sorry… okay let’s move on.’ The damage was done to me, it wasn’t done to them.”

We've had eight years of a reckless President, accountable to no one, pushing this country to the brink. Why would we ever take a risk repeating that? We are never going to turn this country around if we keep electing "more of the same." Just like conservatives have been preaching in opposition to Obama's political tactics for years: actions speak louder than words.

The Cruz Campaign's actions to destroy a good man's efforts to serve are no different than Obama's practice of not holding anyone accountable. Typical politics. Typical politicians. Here's background:
