Pro-life Women Sound the Alarm: Donald Trump is Unacceptable January 26, 2016

Iowa & National Pro-life Leaders Urge Iowans to Support Anyone but Trump

January 26, 2016 – Pro-life women leaders from Iowa as well as the heads of national pro-life organizations are speaking out and urging Republican caucus-goers and voters to support anyone but Donald Trump. The following letter will be sent out to pro-life Iowans today.

Dear Iowans,

As pro-life women leaders from Iowa and across the nation, we urge Republican caucus-goers and voters to support anyone but Donald Trump. On the issue of defending unborn children and protecting women from the violence of abortion, Mr. Trump cannot be trusted and there is, thankfully, an abundance of alternative candidates with proven records of pro-life leadership whom pro-life voters can support. We have come to this conclusion after having listened patiently to numerous debates and news reports, but most importantly to Donald Trump’s own words.

The next president will be responsible for as many as four nominations to the Supreme Court. Mr. Trump has given us only one indication about the type of judges he would appoint, and it does not bode well for those who would like to see the court overturn Roe v. Wade. Mr. Trump has said his sister, Judge Maryanne Trump Barry, who struck down the Partial Birth Abortion Ban in New Jersey, would be a “phenomenal” choice for the court. Earlier this month, Mr. Trump also said he thought pro- choice Senator Scott Brown would make a “very good” Vice President. If one truly believes, as we do, that abortion is the taking of an innocent human life and is committed to the pro-life priorities of ending abortion after five months, and defunding the nation’s largest abortion business, Planned Parenthood, it would be a disaster to have a vice president who disagrees.

I recall how high in the polls Giuliani was in 2008 until the pro-lifers and the pro-gun folk in the early states got serious about stopping him. Then it all evaporated for Rudy.

A: One thing about me, I'm a very honorable guy. I'm pro-life, but I changed my view a number of years ago. One of the primary reasons I changed [was] a friend of mine's wife was pregnant, and he didn't really want the baby. He was crying as he was telling me the story. He ends up having the baby and the baby is the apple of his eye. It's the greatest thing that's ever happened to him. And you know here's a baby that wasn't going to be let into life. And I heard this, and some other stories, and I am pro-life.

No one believes this whopper. Does anyone actually think that some guy is running off to a ginormous gasbag and gossip like Donald Trump to say something like, "Gee, don't tell anyone but I want my wife to get an abortion". And then, a little later, "BTW, that whole abortion thing I was telling you about? Nah.".

If this guy exists, I want to hear this story from him. Otherwise, I think Donald is just making up a story for rubes.

No one believes this whopper.

I do. But let's suppose for a moment that Trump really is not very committed to pro-life. That will make him the same as both Bushes, McCain, Dole, Nixon and Reagan. 'Twas Reagan who signed the abortion bill in California, after all, and Reagan who appointed O'Connor and Kennedy to the Supreme Court. Let's suppose that there is no genuinely pro-life candidate who can win a national election for President, because the majority of Americans are pro-abortion. Then there are the rest of the policies. Trump is right about trade. Trump is right about immigration. Trump is right about Islam. Trump is right about military adventure. And these issues, along with abortion, are the burning issues of the day, every day going back for years. All of the rest of the Republicans are wrong on trade and Islam and military adventure. A couple of them seem to get it on immigration. All of the Democrats are wrong on Islam and immigration, and Clinton is wrong on trade and military adventure as well. I've listened to Trump on abortion, and I believe him. I think he will appoint pro-life justices to the Supreme Court. I think he gets it. I knew Romney was lying through his teeth, but Romney was also wrong on trade, wrong on immigration, wrong on military adventure and wrong on Islam, so there was nothing there to vote FOR. Donald is the first populist to have a major following since Perot. And Trump has been talking about pro-life issues for several years before running for President. Perot was not pro-life. I'm willing to take a chance on Trump's sincerity, because I've seen it in him on everything else so far, and what he says about it rings true. AND I agree with the rest of his policies, and doubt that a man who gets everything so right would suddenly become dishonest on THIS subject, which he also gets right in what he says. Each pro-lifer has to make his or her own assessment. I have assessed Donald Trump, looking back at his change of heart, and when, and why, and looking at the fact that he wasn't running for President then. I believe him.

Trump flipflops constantly. I don't now how you can possibly have any confidence he won't flipflop again. Or maybe you just don't care as much about abortion as you have alleged over the years.

I am quite amazed that, of all the Republican candidates you could choose, you finally fall in love with Donald Trump. Admittedly, it's a cute romance but I think you'll end up a jilted lover with Trump.

I am from Detroit. And I've been in America's stupid foreign wars.

Trump opposed Iraq from the start, and he was right. He opposes the stupid foreign wars. No foreign wars unless we get something out of it. There is no other candidate of either party saying that. Trump is the only rational adult in the room on that score, and he's BEEN the rational adult in the room on this since the beginning of the "War" on Terror.

Detroit, and industrial America, was destroyed by unfair "free" trade. Trump directly opposes it, and has for awhile. Perot had the same position.

The working class have been destroyed by Mexican immigration.

And Trump is the only candidate of either party who isn't being beaten by the margin-of-error who addresses these issues.

So, there's abortion, and Trump's pro-life stance sounds like mine. He is not somebody who was always pro-life, and neither am I. He was persuaded by something, he can tell you what it was, and it makes sense. He wasn't a presidential candidate trying to lie his way into office when he changed his mind, like Romney and Bush were when they lied about having changed theirs. The abortion issue is not a worry for me with Trump. I'm sure he's pro- life.

That, then, moves things to the most important practical issues: the economic needs of the middle and working class, and national security.

Trump is the only one on the right track.

Republicans are always the party of crony capitalism, but that's not where Trump is. The rest of them all are, and always have been all the way back to and including Reagan. Trump is better than Reagan on the economy and on immigration.

So, what's there for me NOT to love about Trump.

See, the difference between you and me is that you actually believe in Republican economics. I have opposed them my entire life. I have always rejected "trickle down" economics and "free" trade and open borders, and I have always been right about it.

In my youth, I was wrong about abortion, and I was wrong about the Empire. I was with the Republicans and supported it.

Encountering God face to face changed my mind about abortion - it certainly wasn't the arguments of America's self-proclaimed "Christians".

Watching the Republicans destroy the military and fail spectacularly in wars all over the Middle East changed my mind about the Empire.

Now enter Trump, and I hear the voice of common sense things that I've said about the economy for three decades FINALLY coming from the mouth of a political leader with a good shot at winning.

You should not be surprised that Trump is my guy, if you were really listening to me all along.

Who is your guy in the Republican field? Let me guess: Cruz.

Cruz is like Reagan on economics: a fool.
