So who made money in World War Two?
The Bush family, the DuPont family, Standard Oil, Ford, and more.
rlk (#5) ----, Answer: Almost every American who wasn't an enlisted man fighting on the ground as a grunt.
Well, they made a living, but for the most part no more than a living. --- BobCeleste
My parents were typical, --- during the war they both worked at well paying jobs unavailable before the war, and saved enough to buy a house on a few acres..
BIG step up for them... And for millions like them. Our new neighborhood (formerly small farms), was subdivided and hundreds of homes were built, most by do it yourselfers from their wartime savings..

The average American did exceedingly well right after the war and through the 60s - up until the Great Society BS.
It allowed my parents, only one of which graduated HS, to raise two kids and have them go to college and subsequently see their children vault up the economic ladder as a result thereof - with little-to-no help from the government. They were also able to retire in reasonable comfort with a very high degree of self-sufficiency (i.e. - no government largess save for SS which they both paid into the system for decades before retiring). The same was true for my in-laws. And at least the two grandmas saw our daughter surpass our educational and career achievements.
In short, that is what embodied the American Dream - a good argument can be made that such was born out of the ruins of WWII. Sadly realization of that version of the dream is just about dead now. Now one is told that they need the government to be able to fulfill the dream.

I should have been more clear, when I said who made the money, I didn't mean ten grand or twenty or even 100 grand, I am talking billions, who made billions off WW2?

So what. My parents, like tens of millions like them in the U.S. prospered beyond their wildest hopes and dreams. Stop your bitter envy of the rich.
