It’s a hybrid of Islamic radicalism that even scares Al Qaeda.

The New York Times best-selling author Joel Rosenberg calls it “Apocalyptic Islam.”

“Apocalyptic Islam doesn’t want to simply attack us, it wants to annihilate us,” Rosenberg told me during an interview broadcast on my podcast. “Apocalyptic Muslims like the leaders of Iran and the leaders of the Islamic State believe that we are living in the End Times and that it’s their mission from Allah to bring about the end of the world as we know it.”

Rosenberg describes Apocalyptic Islam as a subset of Radical Islam.

“We’re not talking about 1.6 billion Muslims,” he said. “We’re talking about ten percent or less who are radicals.”

But ten percent of 1.6 billion is still a mighty big number – and they want to destroy Christians, Jews anyone else they consider to be an infidel.

“They want to establish their global Islamic kingdom where everybody has to follow Islam,” he said. “And that is a substantively, significantly different and much more dangerous form of radical Islam than even Al Qaeda and Hamas and the Taliban.”

“This is not just about attacking us,” Rosenberg warned. “This is about annihilating us.”

Even Al Qaeda has denounced the Apocalyptic Muslims as bloodthirsty.

“When Al Qaeda thinks you’re crazy, you’re really crazy,” he said. “And these people are not just crazy – they’re demonic.”

And yet President Obama and his administration are trying to appease the Islamists – including the ones currently in charge of the Islamic Republic of Iran.

Rosenberg called the nuclear deal foolish, dangerous and insane.

“Once you understand Apocalyptic Islam, you understand just how dangerous it is to give Iran not just one path to nuclear weapons, but two,” he said. “This president doesn’t understand the threat of radical Islam. He won’t even define that – much less Apocalyptic Islam.”

And he doesn’t hold out much hope for the current presidential frontrunners either.

“This is a very challenging year when you have a president and two frontrunners who just don’t understand the most serious foreign policy threat of our time,” he said. “That is not comforting.”

Rosenberg has offered counsel to several Republican presidential campaigns including Senators Ted Cruz and Marco Rubio.

“Senator Rubio totally gets it,” he said. “He’s been using that language in the debates and in his speeches.”

Among the others who “get it” are Cruz, Jeb Bush and Rick Santorum.

What about Donald Trump?

“It’s clear [Trump] doesn’t understand this,” he said. ‘It’s just all bloviating.”

It’s not so much that the world is facing a future threat – the threat is already here.

“These people are crucifying Christians, they’re beheading people" he said. “They are creating mayhem and really genocidal conditions in Syria and Iraq and our current president is just using half measure to run some sort of public relations war against them.”

He doesn’t have a plan.

Sept 2012 Mahmoud Ahmamadjihad (the Mahdi-hatter ) spoke to the UN and said the world would soon see new global management by the Twelfth Imam, the “Mahdi,” and his deputy, Jesus Christ (who will force all Jews and Christians to convert to Shia Islam, or perish). He did not give a date for the return of the Mahdi ,but indicated it would be soon.....the “sweet scent” of the Mahdi’s global reign “will soon reach all the territories in Asia, Europe, Africa and the U.S.”.

The mythology behind his return (he fell in a well and disappeared ) is the there has to be a period of chaos before it comes to pass . Yes an Iranian nuke would do the trick.

The Mahdi-hatter for his part is a devotee(as are most of the 12ers ruling regime ). When he was President of Iran ,he spent a fortune building grand roads to the Jamkaran Mosque, where the 12th Imam reportedly once appeared to a farmer and told him to build a mosque . Ahmamadjihad thinks that is where the Mahdi will return. There is a well there ,and pilgrims throw letters down the well hoping the Mahdi will read them.

It is clear that for the most part ,if our political leadership is aware of this Muslim eschatology ,they do not take it seriously (or in the case of the emperor perhaps favor it ? ) . How about this then. When the enemy says they intend to destroy you ;you really should take them seriously .

Quis custodiet ipsos custodes?

Rosenberg wrote some fiction books on the return of the Mahdi. Interesting reading on a long flight.

For when we were still without strength, in due time Christ died for the ungodly. For scarcely for a righteous man will one die; yet perhaps for a good man someone would even dare to die. But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. (Romans 5:6-8)

Could Obama's nuke deal unleash Iran's Apocalyptic Muslims?

That's exactly what it's calculated to do.

I still don't understand how the Mahdi hangs around in some dank well, century after century. It's laughable.

Especially after those Nasibi desecrated the well recently by peeing down it.

Perhaps he is a ghost or a Jinn. Muslims believe in Jinns. Why are we concerned what ahmamadjihad thinks, he had his time of leading the world into disaster. For all their rhetoric the Iranians appear a stable society, they haven't rushed over their borders to fill the vacuum in Iraq. Sure they have furmented a little trouble in their neighbours but what nation with delusions of grandeur doesn't do that? It is a national pasttime in the middle east and far beyond.

I've never been too sure about who the 72 virgins are. Are those Jinn or Houris? Or is an Houri just a smoking hot Jinn?

Maybe there's a 72 virgins harem down there with a full serve bar and entertainment center...no wonder he has not come out yet! :)

For all their rhetoric the Iranians appear a stable society

and they will be unmovably entrenched once they have their hands on a nuke. Oh by the way ;along with being a 'stable ' government ,they are also homicidal and apocalyptic. Do you really think they are exempt from the ethnic and sectarian tensions ripping the rest of the region apart ? Azeris, Kurds, Arabs, and others make up almost half the population.

Like many countries in the region ,they hold the structure of society together with an iron fist (one of the most brutal in the world ). That was true when the Shah sat on the Peacock Throne ;and it's doubly true today. The hold the 12ers had on the country was not strong ;even after the emperor refused to give support to the Green Revolution . But now they are getting an infusion of cash to throw them a life line. Mir Hossein Mousavi and Mehdi Karroubi, who led the protests, remain under house arrest in Tehran. Thousands of student leaders and democracy activists who took to the streets were exiled to Turkey, Europe and the U.S., fearing arrest if they return home.

Keep your eyes open. Elections are scheduled for next month ;and the opposition has already been denied a seat at the table. 12,000 candidates (more than half) who applied to run in next month's parliamentary elections have already been disqualified .Tehran has stepped up arrests of political opponents since the nuke deal was announced . The hardliners are on the march. The Guardian Council that has begun vetting candidates has announced that the grandson of Ayatollah Khomeini, may be barred. He is seen as an ally of Hassan Rouhani and other "reformist" politicians.

That is not the sign of a stable regime.

Tom there are signs the regime in the US is unstable too but don't worry Sarah Palin has put the kiss of death on Donald Trump. You critise Iran for its repressions but understand Iran is an ancient society, they don't think as you do, they have learned over centuries how to deal with unruly diverse populations, a lesson you could well learn.

All revolutionaries protect the revolution, it takes another revolution to dislodge them, something that is overdue in more than one nation. You accuse the Iranians of doing exactly what your own government does, furmenting unrest in the middle east. I wonder when we will learn you have been covertly supporting Daesh. we cannot say you have been waging an all out war against them
