A 79-year-old Tennessee man called 911 saying he went two days without food, so police stepped in and delivered enough meals to last a month, paying for the food out of their own pockets.

The man, who asked WKRN.com not to identify him, told the station that he was on a fixed income and relied on Social Security benefits. To make matters significantly more challenging, his caretaker is accused of stealing his debit card earlier this month.

Police said Tammy Brooks, 36, was seen on surveillance video using the stolen card and was arrested on Sunday night, the report said.

The officers arrived at the man’s Mt. Pleasant home with several bags of groceries amounting to about $160.

“I think he was shocked at the amount of food that we bought and just the fact it was there without question,” one of the officers said.

May God Bless these fine officers. This is definitely a change of pace from officers shooting dogs, cats, kids, etc. This community should be very proud of these men! I wish these guys GodSpeed !

Why didn't he work harder during his productive years to save for retirement?

It never ceases to amaze me how it is so infrequent that the police do anything good, that when they do, it makes the national news.

Well Bob, I will be the first to shame them when they do things wrong; steal, shoot someones dog, cat, kid, innocent people, etc, etc. But when I see where they have done good, I will also praise them, as in this case.

I have to say, I know personally of cases where they have done very good, and it was never known by the public.

One has to remember, that like all groups, cops have good & bad members.
