In an appearance on Wednesday’s “Fox & Friends,” Republican presidential front-runner Donald Trump reacted to rhetoric that appeared to be aimed at him during last night’s State of the Union address from President Barack Obama and during the Republican response from Gov. Nikki Haley (R-SC).

On Obama, Trump said he was living in a “fantasy land” when it comes to the seriousness of the threats facing the country.

However, as for Haley, he took her to task for weak on immigration and for having sought campaign contributions from him in the past.

“She’s weak on illegal immigration, and she certainly has no trouble asking me for campaign contributions, ‘cause over the years she’s asked me for a hell of a lot of money in campaign contributions. So, you know, it’s sort of interesting to hear,” he continued. “Perhaps, if I weren’t running she’d be in my office asking for money. But now that I’m running, she wants to take a weak side on immigration. I feel very strongly about illegal immigration. She doesn’t, and I think the people in her great state, I love her state, I’m there a lot, and by the way I have a massive lead in South Carolina. We have a massive lead. They’re incredible people, and they feel like I do. Believe me. Because they don’t like what’s happening in our country.”

Trump was also asked about the potential of a Trump-Haley GOP presidential ticket, to which Trump seemingly dismissed.

“We’ll pick somebody, but we’ll pick somebody who’s very good,” he replied. “But whoever I pick is going to be very strong on illegal immigration. We’ve had it. We’ve had it with illegal immigration.”

What was Nikki baby doing hitting him for constributions in her SC governor's race -- or the SC House of Reps???

I hate her -- she's a Republican like Flimsey Graham is. The only question is which is more of an extreme liberal Democrat under the skin.

Now, if Trump will drop the word illegal from this discourse he'll be the man he thinks he is on the subject. The legal/illegal thing is nothing but a fig leaf for the racial anxiety neurosis. All the system has to do us declare everybody legal and the rug's yanked out from under the Trump types.

She's the obvious VP attack dog to use against Hitlery. The VP role Carly Fiorina coveted was being planned for Nicky Haley all along, it seems. Haley will be like Palin but more competent at attacks, more dignified, better briefed and prepared. She is a quick study, very bright by all accounts. She is almost certainly already doing debate prep and getting ready to roll for the convention.

Nicky Haley may as well get crowned 2016 GOP VP nominee right now. Hell, even Trump would be smart to pick her.

Not terribly. She's okay, done credible enough as a SC pol. That isn't saying all that much, given how popular Miz Lindsey is in the state.

I think it is obvious she is being groomed for and promoted by the Beltway crowd as the inevitable VP pick for any GOP nominee.

You've been drinking that establishment kool aid again.

I used to think she was ok. But since she hates the Dukes of Hazard. Screw her. If she is on the ticket with anyone I wouldn't vote for them. Even if it was Cruz. But Cruz and Trump are to smart to pick this pseudo American.

IMHO, Nikki baby is nothing but a liberal freshman college girl ready and eager to become stupider by the minute. She is the point at which I finally realized that literally you or I or anybody would do a better job than these politicians. She knows only one thing -- prostituting herself to extreme liberalism and basking in the left's screeching praises.

She's actually a female Obama (total nobody that rapidly became a somebody as if via hidden hands) who managed to masquerade as a Republican for most of her career so far. As soon as she reached lame duck status -- elected for the second and last time allowable under SC law -- the mask and gloves came off. Thank your lucky stars Trump doesn't like her, because the trend is black and brown politicians over this mostly white country and that is evil.

Newsweek glorified her with a rock-star type pictorial feature -- that told me everything I needed to know.

I see an update is in order on Nikki.

HotAir

Whoa: Unlike Marco Rubio, I don’t believe in “amnesty,” says … Nikki Haley

Man alive. I would have bet cash money, and not a small amount, that Haley would eventually endorse Rubio in South Carolina. I’ve operated under the assumption for months that she’d be his VP if he wins the nomination. Sure, there’s bad blood between Haley and some of Rubio’s advisors, but bygones will be bygones when there’s a place on a national ticket at stake. Haley’s political persona has always seemed to me much more like Rubio’s than Ted Cruz’s — sunny, disinclined to bomb-throw, self-conscious about being a “next generation Republican,” willing to make common cause with the left even on fraught policy matters (immigration, the Confederate flag debate). The playbook, I thought, was for Rubio to perform well in New Hampshire, earn a bunch of influential vote-of-confidence endorsements from prominent Republicans in South Carolina (starting with Haley), surprise everyone with a strong showing there, and then battle Cruz and Trump on an even footing in the SEC primary and Florida. You can remove Haley from the playbook now.

The most striking thing about this is how gratuitous it is. It’s not a case of some reporter badgering her to answer, yes or no, if Rubio’s too far left on immigration. Haley volunteers it. And not only does she volunteer it, she uses the word “amnesty.” It’s practically an attack-ad soundbite. If she wanted to respectfully disagree with Rubio, she could have either said “I disagree with him about comprehensive immigration reform” or just omitted him here altogether. That’s the difference between this and other cases of potential VPs criticizing the eventual nominee, as Biden did to Obama during the 2008 Democratic debates. Biden was a fellow candidate and had to try to dent O; Haley didn’t have to say a word here about Rubio, and she certainly didn’t have to ding him on his biggest liability. The fact that she made a point of bringing it up makes me think she must have already quietly committed to another candidate. Some righties on Twitter are suggesting Christie, but c’mon. Nikki Haley’s endorsement in South Carolina is a precious thing. She’s not going to waste her influence on him unless he shocks the world in New Hampshire and comes into SC with all kinds of momentum. Occam’s razor says she’s on Team Cruz and is helping him out here with a splashy attack on his establishment rival. In fact, she’s specifically asked here about whether Cruz, like Trump, is one of those “angry voices” she criticized in her SOTU rebuttal last night. Any Rubio fan would eagerly answer that in the affirmative. Haley’s answer: Nope, not really — but have I mentioned that Marco Rubio is pro-amnesty? Damn.

So there’s your ticket, I guess: Cruz/Haley. We could do worse. Here’s Haley, plus a new ad from a pro-Cruz Super PAC attacking Rubio on — ta da — amnesty.

Looks like Nikki is placing her bets that the GOP nominee will be Trump or Cruz. Whatever Nikki's strategy, it's clear she is throwing down on Rubio and is confident he will not be the nominee. And she's willing to do some pre-emptive dancing on his political grave too.

Ah, I see another interview surfaced with Nikki definitely saying she was after Trump and the the Beltway GOPe types put her up to it.

HotAir: Nikki Haley: Damn right I was criticizing Trump in my SOTU rebuttal last night

Granted, there’s not much for a Republican to say about Obama’s policies in year eight that hasn’t been said before, but we’re in a weird place when the GOP’s SOTU rebuttal is essentially a rebuttal of the GOP frontrunner. And lest you think that was all Haley, she acknowledged today that her speech, as is customary, was approved by party leaders before she delivered it. It was a group effort.

I, for one, welcome the impending Republican crack-up!

South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley defended her response to Tuesday’s State of the Union, confirming to TODAY’s Matt Lauer she was referring to Donald Trump as one of the “angriest voices” she mentioned.

“Mr. Trump has definitely contributed to what I think is just irresponsible talk,” she told Matt in an interview Wednesday…

Haley said that launching a full-scale partisan attack on Obama is not her style: “That’s not me.”

While she blamed the the president for dividing the nation “in ways we’ve never seen before” on issues including the economy, education and national security, Haley said Republicans also need “to look in the mirror” and own up for their role in the nation’s failures.

...

I have only one thing to say about Nikki. She's an evil bitch and I hope she dies. If she's reaching the next level of tawdry fame and fortune, it only shows how well prostitution pays today, and in that category I include her obscene EXTREME LIBERAL exploitation off the alleged Charleston massacre.
