Obama vows to cure cancer ‘once and for all’

The Hill ^ | Jan 16, 2015 | Sarah Ferris

Posted on 01/12/2016 6:36:14 PM PST

President Obama is pledging a "new national effort" to find a cure for cancer in his final State of the Union address on Tuesday.

"For the loved ones we've all lost, for the family we can still save, let’s make America the country that cures cancer once and for all," Obama wrote in his joint address to Congress, according to remarks released by the White House.

Obama said the efforts are inspired by, and will be led by, Vice President Biden, who has launched a high-profile push to end cancer after losing his oldest son last year.

"Last year, Vice President Biden said that with a new moonshot, America can cure cancer," Obama said Tuesday. "Tonight, I'm announcing a new national effort to get it done."

Just hours earlier Tuesday, a group of biotech companies, drugmakers, doctors and researchers formally announced a coalition called the Cancer MoonShot 2020, a reference to Biden's speech in the Rose Garden last October when he promised a "moon shot" to end cancer. Poster'not: When the two imbeciles Obama and Biden decree it, it will be done. I could ask either of them for the formula for butyl alcohol and they would both be stuck for an answer. But they are both issuing pronouncements as if they know something the entire medical and pharmaceutical research effort hasn't found out how to do in decades.

should be a piece of cake for the emperor who can stop the rising tides . Clete ,growing old is the biggest risk factor in cancer . Medical technology has allowed the average age of humans to increase .

'When people hit middle age, the cells within their body may have a midlife crisis of their own that could cause cancer.

A new study suggests that this midlife cellular breakdown might help explain why growing older is the single biggest risk factor for cancer and nearly 80% of cancers are diagnosed after age 55.'

http://www.webmd.com/cancer/news/20030925/growing-old-cancer

Maybe the emperor's moonshot should be research to end the aging process . But what the emperor did not mention is that the US government has averaged $4.9 billion in funding cancer research over the past six years ;and that doesn't include how much Americans spent privately for cancer research . How much more is he asking for ?

Dr. Margaret Cuomo (sister of New York Gov. ilDuce Andrew Cuomo) wrote about her perspective on this in her recent book, ' A World Without Cancer.'

"More than 40 years after the war on cancer was declared, we have spent billions fighting the good fight. The National Cancer Institute has spent some $90 billion on research and treatment during that time. Some 260 nonprofit organizations in the United States have dedicated themselves to cancer — more than the number established for heart disease, AIDS, Alzheimer’s disease, and stroke combined. Together, these 260 organizations have budgets that top $2.2 billion."

"It’s true there have been small declines in some common cancers since the early 1990s, including male lung cancer and colon and rectal cancer in both men and women. And the fall in the cancer death rate — by approximately 1 percent a year since 1990 — has been slightly more impressive. Still, that’s hardly cause for celebration. Cancer’s role in one out of every four deaths in this country remains a haunting statistic."

"As a result of the billions put into cancer research, we do know a lot about what causes cancer, how cancers grow, and how cancers spread. We have ideas about how to stop cancer. But the process of translating laboratory advances into the clinic has been agonizingly slow. This because cancer isn't one disease, but a general term for many diseases that have some things in common and many things that vary from one type of cancer to another.

Even within a cancer, like breast cancer, we are finding that there are different subtypes that have different molecular signatures that should be attacked in different ways. And we're making progress.

But we should also understand that for the most part, cancer is a disease of aging, and we aren't close to solving that problem. We're finding that cancer survivors are developing second and third cancers. So there are going to be significant limits on what cancer treatment can accomplish. I don't think that we'll ever defeat aging."

cure cancer ‘once and for all’

Never happen. Too many people getting rich off of this. There is no money in a cure, it is treatment where the money is.

I believe that there is much truth in this statement. The reality is that the progress made in winning the War On Cancer over the past 45 years has been pitiful, if not shameful.

Do some homework, Lance. You are majorly misinformed if you think that the free enterprise system has been in control of the so-called war on cancer.

Wise up! We have been living with brain cancer in the house for over a year. Plus my daughter is a surgeon and we have consulted with the best of the best around the country. I know of where I speak.

Is it GBM if so novocure was specifically designed for that. Insightec also uses frequency to cure cancer. Give them both a Google. Their is already a cure. Their is no reason for anyone to be dying from cancer anymore. Screw profiteering , Google novocure Google insightec.
