President says proposal "well within my legal authority and the executive branch"
President Obama labeled his upcoming executive actions on gun control consistent with the Second Amendment Monday during a public address from the Oval Office.
Im confident that the recommendations that are being made by my team here are ones that are entirely consistent with the Second Amendment and peoples lawful right to bear arms, the president said.
Obama defended the proposed actions, which have yet to be specified, following a meeting with Attorney General Loretta Lynch and FBI Director James Comey.
These are not only recommendations that are well within my legal authority and the executive branch but theyre also ones that the overwhelming majority of the American people, including gun owners, support he added.
According to reports, President Obama is expected to expand background checks while also barring Americans secretly placed on the governments controversial no-fly list from purchasing firearms.
The president, who also argued that bypassing Congress would potentially save lives, plans to announce the executive actions over the next several days.
Despite President Obamas insistent stance on gun control, a new Gallup poll found that only 2 percent of Americans view guns and gun control as a major issue facing the country. In contrast, 16 percent of Americans agreed that the government itself was the top problem.
Multiple Republican lawmakers, including Texas Governor Greg Abbott, have vocally protested the presidents plan.
Obama wants to impose more gun control, Abbott tweeted Friday. My response? COME & TAKE IT.
Poster Comment:
Roll out week, more tyranny promised. Ideas, initiatives, well within legal authority? WRONG!
But it isn't consistent with the laws Congress put on the books. It directly contradicts the law.
AoS:
The law says this about who must conduct a background check on a gun sale: those who are "engaged in the business" of selling guns must perform background checks, and "engaged in the business" is defined like this:
(21) The term engaged in the business means--
...
(C) as applied to a dealer in firearms, as defined in section 921(a)(11)(A), a person who devotes time, attention, and labor to dealing in firearms as a regular course of trade or business with the principal objective of livelihood and profit through the repetitive purchase and resale of firearms, but such term shall not include a person who makes occasional sales, exchanges, or purchases of firearms for the enhancement of a personal collection or for a hobby, or who sells all or part of his personal collection of firearms;
Stymied by Republicans in Congress, President Barack Obama is expected to act alone to take executive action to tighten restrictions on gun sales.
White House adviser Valerie Jarrett, speaking at a vigil last week for victims of the 2012 Newtown, Conn., shooting, confirmed that the president has asked his staff to complete a proposal that would expand background checks on gun sales without congressional approval.
Before Jarrett's public pronouncement, The New York Times and other media have reported the Obama administration's action would broaden the definition of who is considered a high-volume gun dealer, a move that could force background checks for certain sales at gun shows, online, and in other areas that fall outside the law.
The GOPe seems poised to do no more than make a few squawking noises about this new lawlessness from our dictator.

Then again,he IS an Affirmative Action president with an Affirmative Action law degree.
Why is democracy held in such high esteem when it’s the enemy of the minority and makes all rights relative to the dictates of the majority? (Ron Paul,2012)
American Indians had open borders. Look at how well that worked out for them.

I would like to see the talk show hosts do the " man on the street " interviews and see how many people, and especially gun owners support this POS that is squatting in the white hut.
I know a few people that supported this POS, and I like those people less, and less each day!! IF that is possible!
