There has been victory over Daesh in Ramadi, so why so slow to acknowledge and celebrate this victory over evil?

http://www.abc.net.au/news/2015-...complex-in-ramadi/7055904

The Iraqi forces with US air strikes have succeeded in taking Ramadi but this seems to be a non event here. We must clebrate victory over evil no matter where it is achieved or by who. Failure to do so makes me very cynical of the press coverage and the objectives of main stream media

Because Ramadi won't stay won easily.

Even if they hold Ramadi, it will remain a trouble spot. And it is still only a regional capitol. Far more important is Mosul, still in ISIS's hands and they are dug in. A city of over 2 million.

Far more important is Mosul,

so we wait until Mosul is taken before we celebrate a small victory?, When Mosul is taken Iraq will celebrate total victory because they won't be interested in pursuing Daesh into Syria unless they unleash their shiia militia.

No I'm cynical enough to think that the US press isn't interested because the victory doesn't have a US stamp on it, and you should think about this; if news reporting is this selective, how well informed are the US population anyway, personally I think they are mushrooms

That is pretty much true. Even if this was not the holiday season, it would be true. We didn't seem to care much even when our troops were engaged in major combat and winning against very determined AQ types and the Ba'aathist elements.

Maybe no Americans care because Ramadi is and has always been a shithole of a city. And we had Iraq pacified when we left; the Iraqis lost quickly because they ran away like little girls from the first fights with ISIS. As a result, Americans have an even lower opinion of Iraqis than we did before.

So if you have a low opinion, and I do admit I share that opinion based on their cowardice in the face of Daesh, however something must have put some spine back in their worthless shells, perhaps some executions. At last they are defending their country and they should be congratulated. Ramadi was a troublesome place and paid a heavy price and Falujha is next, but we have to put the old fights aside, if you had faced Daesh in Iraq your task would have been much harder, if for no other reason than their numbers

What you effectively just said is news reporting is suspended in December where you live. Anyway the Donald will deal with them, he will talk them down or buy them out

Our troops did face ISIS/Daesh in eastern Iraq. Back then, they were called Al-Qaeda In Iraq (AQI) and operated then, as now, under the command of disaffected Ba'athist military and intel leaders.

It has been essentially the same enemy and the same leaders throughout and they come from the same areas and tribes consistently. The major difference is that they have expanded into restive Sunni areas of Syria and recruited a lot of foreign fighters.

If you believe that to be so then there was no victory in Iraq. Al Qaeda always recruited foriegn fighters but Al Qaeda split from Daesh believing them to be too extreme, besides Al Qaeda was basicly opposed to Assad whereas Daesh appears to have other objectives which included the conquest of Iraq and oausting shiia leadership. What you have, for the moment, is the establishment of a sunni governed area spanning both Iraq and Syria. It is unfortunate that Daesh is radical and jihadist otherwise it may have been a solution to tensions in Iraq and Syria

And that Sunni-governed area of western Iraq and eastern Syria are where the most Sunnis live in those countries. And ISIS has been funded by the Saudis, the Turks and Qatar, all Sunni countries who don't want Shi'ism/Alawites to consolidate their grip across the region (Syria/Lebanon/Iraq/Iran).

BTW, for all your kvetching about how no one is noticing the Ramadi victory, I looked at Fox News today and they were mentioning it at least every half hour, did some segments on it, emphasized the widespread celebrations in Iraqi cities (loyal to Baghdad), etc. So the recapture of Ramadi has not gone entirely unnoticed.

I was indicating it had gone unnoticed here where the latest dribblings and droulings of a man called Trump appear to be the only topic of conversation.

International news services were reporting it but it is too a-political an event, no milage in it for candidates
