Bush has considered backing out of pledge if nominee is Trump: aide

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Republican presidential candidate Jeb Bush's campaign has looked into whether it is possible to withdraw a pledge to support the eventual nominee if it is Donald Trump, a senior Bush aide said on Thursday, in a sign of the deep enmity between the two.

The development came to light after Bush and Trump engaged in bitter exchanges at the last Republican debate of the year on Tuesday night in Las Vegas.

Last week in New Hampshire, Bush insisted he would not need to withdraw his support for the nominee because he did not believe Trump would win the 2016 Republican presidential nomination.

Behind the scenes, top aides have looked into whether Bush would still qualify to be on the ballots in all 50 states because some states require a loyalty pledge in order to be on the ballot.

A driving factor behind the move was Trump's proposal to ban all Muslims from entering the United States, a step that Bush denounced to Trump's face at the debate.

"We received lots of questions following Donald Trump’s most recent unhinged proposal so our campaign did due diligence looking into the rules surrounding the pledge," said a senior Bush aide who spoke on condition of anonymity.

Still, Bush has not moved to declare he would not support Trump if he wins the nomination fight.

"Governor Bush made explicitly clear on Tuesday his view that Donald Trump would be a chaos president who would be wrong for the country. Voters know where he stands. His focus is on defeating him in the primary," the aide said.

Trump has said he does not want Bush's endorsement.

Trump, the front-runner in national polls of Republican voters and leading in some of the early voting states, has taunted Bush all year.

Bush fought back with gusto at the debate, and the well-funded Super PAC that supports him, Right To Rise, released a television ad on Thursday that described the former Florida governor as "the one candidate tough enough to take on the bully." It is to air in Iowa, which holds the first nominating contest of the 2016 election on Feb. 1, as well as the two next states to hold contests, New Hampshire and South Carolina.

I agree with Trump on his perspective. Who wants a piece of shit dangling around their neck?

Everyone talked about how the bush's were so honorable but one backing out of an agreement is not honorable in my opinion. This goes to the true nature of the man and his family!

Even Trump said if the GOP elites fight fair I will not go second party and he restated this many times.

It seems the bush's are not who they claimed they were and were held up to be by the establishment. Then again you are known by the people you keep company with!

Jeb! is not "dumb." He represents the GOP status quo with hundreds of millions of dollars in his campaign by prominent Republicans. He is backed by the Bush cabal which is very influential in America through both the private sector and government.

But, he doesn't represent my political philosophy or opinions. Jeb! is not a constitutionalist. BTW, Trump isn't either.

Oh, FUCK all that clap trap. The Bush cabal FUCKED UPPED the ME and created not just, Reagan's "freedom fighters" from the earlier Mujahedin but later created the Taliban. Now, we have the morphed ISIS caliphate.

The Bush family cabal is the core reason we see evidence of Islamic terrorism around the world.

Is Trump more honorable than Bush?

A stool specimen would be more honerable than any Bush. Bushs represent a disasterous combination of ambition, childish self indulgence, stupidity, country club affability, shallowness, and hereditarily based right to hold office. These are their strong points.

Truth to tell, they are both Royalists, but JEB is too stupid to understand that. Babs clearly has all the intelligence in that family.

I am no fan of Trump, but asking if he is as "honorable" as any Bush is sitting the bar pretty damn low.

IMHO,JEB is desperate because he was always told he was the "smart brother",and if he doesn't get elected this time he knows he will never get another chance, and then have to face life knowing "the dumb brother" beat him out twice.

Bush is dumb as a box of rocks.

Trump just released a comment saying, "Bush is as dumb as a rock." In comparing the attributes of any Bush versus a rock, I'd say the characteristics of the rock are preferable. A rock is more consistent and reliable than a Bush.
