Exactly. His entire reputation for "intelligence" rests on his ability to reinforce his lefty audience's delusions of their own superiority by channeling their chauvinistic fantasies about what conservatives are like. It is nothing more than a contemporary spin on stupid jokes. Those jokes used to focus on ethnic groups (Sven and Olie jokes, "Polack" jokes, blackface shufflers and so on) or "retard" jokes. Today, conservative white males are the only socially acceptable targets for such look-down-your-nose ridicule, so Colbert grabbed that low hanging fruit and recycled every dumb cliche about them he could devise, to the braying delight of the same people who consider Stewart and Maher to be terribly intelligent, cutting edge minds. Leftism today consists largely of self identification with moral and intellectual superiority...posing with little substance. The Colberts of the world feed that imagined superiority by flattering the empty vanity of that audience through cheap ridicule of the despised Other. To anyone not in the thrall of that cultural meme, he just looks like a bizarre anomaly, like someone doing a Stepin Fetchit impersonation.

The left has a dangerous ignorance, thinking that actual evil, criminal people are victims or misunderstood and anyone who points it out is perhaps a racist and slime. Their fake moral superiority bars them from pointing out obvious truths at risk of being called a bigot or racist. They trade common sense for PC. Clearly they are the mental children of our culture. I also don't care how many degrees certain liberals have, when it comes to decision making and emotional maturity they are juveniles.
