His entire reputation for "intelligence" rests on his ability to reinforce his lefty audience's delusions of their own superiority by channeling their chauvinistic fantasies about what conservatives are like. Today, conservative white males are the only socially acceptable targets for such look-down-your-nose ridicule, so Colbert grabbed that low hanging fruit and recycled every dumb cliche about them he could devise, to the braying delight of the same people who consider Stewart and Maher to be terribly intelligent, cutting edge minds. Leftism today consists largely of self identification with moral and intellectual superiority...posing with little substance. The Colberts of the world feed that imagined superiority by flattering the empty vanity of that audience through cheap ridicule of the despised Other. To anyone not in the thrall of that cultural meme, he just looks like a bizarre anomaly, like someone doing a Stepin Fetchit impersonation. These people receive Colbert's show thru the fillings in their teeth and the Aluminum foil caps on their heads. The other 95 percent of the viewing audience is off watching everything else including paint dry (more interesting than Colbert). So when David Letterman "came out of the closet" and revealed he was a nasty, nut case, bootlicking Democrat, he predictably lost half his viewing audience. So the geniuses at CBS decided that Letterman's replacement should be a more strident Leftist scumbag who would appeal to a fraction of Letterman's diminished audience? Who hired the Idiots who made these decisions at CBS? Anybody could have told them Colbert was going to flop. They would have a larger audience share if they replaced Colbert with "The All Allah Sharia Prayer Rug Hour." The proper replacement for David Letterman was Craig Ferguson. Schmucks!!!
