To: All (#0) I posted this so you can know the truth. 2 things you can take from these numbers war and economic down turn occurs when we bring in more than 2% growth per decade by immigration(legal and illegal). We are a land of immigrants but every time we bring in mass immigration as progressives want it becomes a huge burden on everyone and especially our children! To: Justified (#0) Historic US immigration per populations The percentage of immigrants is not of interest to me so much as the quality of immigrants we are currently letting in. The peak in the 1840s and 1850s is from the so-called 48ers. They were Germans who came over to escape the turbulence if Germany during that period. Many of them became dedicated farmers or brought over useful roles as serious craftsmen. Many of them started middle and large businesses. The area I came from in the midwest still employed German as a second language in the '50s. I remember a high school teacher reading off the names of students attending his class and saying, "What a bunch of krauts!" Incidently, later German immigration gave us Doris Kappelhoff, better known as Doris Day, noted singer and actress. Yum yum!
