Robert Dear Jr. declares his guilt in shooting at Colorado Springs clinic as 179 charges are announced Robert Dear Jr. talks directly to Judge Gilbert Martinez during a court appearance December 09, 2015 where El Paso County prosecutors filed formal charges against him in the Planned Parenthood attack during which University of Colorado Colorado Springs police officer Garrett Swasey, Iraq war veteran Ke'Arre Stewart and Jennifer Markovsky, mother of two were killed on November 27, 2015. El Paso County prosecutors on Wednesday announced 179 charges against the man accused of killing three people and injuring 12 others at a Planned Parenthood clinic. Robert Lewis Dear Jr., 57, appeared in El Paso County District Court. He was arrested Nov. 27 after a standoff that lasted more than five hours at the clinic in Colorado Springs. The lone suspect has since been held without bond in the El Paso County jail on suspicion of first-degree murder. Dear appeared with public defender Dan King. King was one of the attorneys who represented Aurora theater shooter James Holmes. During the hearing, Dear declared that he is guilty. "I am guilty, there's no trial. I am a warrior for the babies," he told the court. Dear repeatedly interrupted King as the lawyer tried to discuss matters with the judge. Dear shouted out "Protect the babies!" and "I will not meet with him again," apparently referring to King. The charges include eight first-degree murder charges and 131 attempted first-degree murder charges, District Attorney Dan May said at a news conference after the court hearing. University of Colorado at Colorado Springs police Officer Garrett Swasey was killed after he responded to a call for help from the clinic. Swasey, a husband and father of two, was one of the first officers to arrive on scene. Ke'Arre Stewart, 29, and Jennifer Markovsky, 35, also were killed. Both had accompanied friends to the clinic. Twelve people were injured, nine of those by gunfire. Five of those injured by gunfire were law enforcement officers; all of them have been released from the hospital and are recovering, officials said Tuesday night. Swasey's wife, Rachel Swasey, was in the courtroom Wednesday. Dear did not look in her direction. She did not comment after the proceedings. During the hearing, the judge issued a gag order for law enforcement and the parties involved. As the judge and attorneys were discussing who was included in the gag order, Dear interrupted. "The babies that were supposed to be aborted that day, could you add them to that list?" he said. King requested that the judge order prompt discovery in the case so the defense team can learn "the depth of Mr. Dear's mental illness." Dear interrupted, "You're not my lawyer." King told the judge the sharing of evidence was vital. "It's rather ironic that prosecutors have not disclosed one piece of evidence," he started. Dear interrupted, "You're trying to silence me." King told the judge "I think the problem is obvious, your honor." After a brief recess, the hearing was continued. A status hearing was set for Dec. 23 at 1:30 p.m. The judge spoke to Dear and advised him of his right to a preliminary hearing within 35 days. Dear told the the judge, "Planned Parenthood and my lawyer are in cahoots because they don't want the truth out." King told the judge he wasn't confident that his client was competent to make a choice about his legal rights. Dear interrupted, saying, "I'm competent." He went on, "I'm not going to agree to mental health evaluations so they can't put me on psychotropic drugs so I can't talk like the Batman guy." In previous court proceedings, Dear appeared Nov. 30 in front of 4th Judicial District Chief Judge Gilbert Martinez via a closed-circuit video. Martinez advised Dear of his rights and assigned the Colorado Public Defender's office to represent him. District Attorney Dan May said his office would be prepared to file formal charges on Wednesday. May said under Colorado's system, he cannot answer whether his office will seek the death penalty in the case. Once prosecutors file formal charges, a preliminary hearing will be set, which likely will be followed by an arraignment. During the arraignment — which is likely months away — Dear will enter a plea. Prosecutors will have 63 days after Dear enters a plea to decide whether to seek the death penalty.

King told the judge he wasn't confident that his client was competent to make a choice about his legal rights. Dear interrupted, saying, "I'm competent." He went on, "I'm not going to agree to mental health evaluations so they can't put me on psychotropic drugs so I can't talk like the Batman guy." While the courts will try to do everything in the power to make him appear insane, I pray God will bless and protect him, that the Lord will override any mind altering drugs they force on him and help him tell the truth about the baby murdering scum in office and at planned parenthood, the new high priest of baal. Dear told the the judge, "Planned Parenthood and my lawyer are in cahoots because they don't want the truth out."
