Police in Nashville, Tennessee, have arrested a man and charged him with raping and nearly strangling to death a 60-year-old disabled woman.
The elderly woman, who is a dialysis patient confined to a wheelchair, was sitting on a city bus with a sack of groceries when police say Reginald Eugene Gregory, 50, offered to help her get her purchases home.
But once the woman neared her home, Gregory allegedly forced his way into her apartment and attacked her.
Police charge that Gregory “dumped her out of her wheelchair. While on the ground, the defendant then began to choke her around the neck with both hands.”
The accused then allegedly dragged the woman to her bedroom, where he raped her.
After he left the apartment, the victim called police.
Officers found the man in a nearby parking lot and arrested him for the crime.
Police discovered that Gregory was already on parole for a previous sex offense. The suspect was arrested in 2003 for rape and convicted of aggravated assault. He also has a rape conviction from 2012. He is reportedly under state supervision “for life,” according to CBS affiliate WTVF.
Gregory is being held on a $250,000 bond.
