On Monday, Donald Trump issued a statement advocating “a total and complete shutdown of Muslims entering the United States until our representatives can figure out what’s going on.” Only hours after calling for a “total and complete ban on Muslims entering the United States,” the Republican presidential candidate forwarded the notion that America should also consider “closing the Internet up in some way,” as a means of fighting the Islamic State. During a speech, Trump said that children in America are “watching the internet and they want to be masterminds,” and “we’re losing a lot of people because of the internet.” Forwarding the narrative that the internet is responsible for radicalizing Muslims, a contentious point, to say the least, Trump called for closing down the internet, by oddly invoking Microsoft founder Bill Gates as a point man of sorts in his ludicrous scheme. “We’ve got to maybe do something with the internet. We’re losing a lot of people because of the internet. We have to see Bill Gates and a lot of different people that really understand what’s happening,” said Trump. Let that sink in for a moment. If you believe in freedom of speech you are a fool, according to Trump. What’s interesting is that Trump’s idea sounds eerily similar to the “Great Firewall of China,” a censorship regime that only allows websites that are approved by the Chinese government to be available to those in mainland China. If this is what Trump thinks “Making America Great Again” involves, perhaps we should be content to not be so great! The business mogul then turned his ire to those currently in control of the U.S. government. “We used to call it the quiet majority,” he said of his Republican base. “But people are fed up – they are fed up with incompetence, they are fed up with stupid leaders, they are fed up with stupid people,” said Trump The real danger of Trump isn’t necessarily his actual policy, as he hasn’t even received a single vote, but rather the incitement of bigotry and encouragement of violence, which is legitimized and encouraged on a pop culture level through Trump’s rhetoric. While many consider Trump an outsider, he has shown himself to be a skilled politician by stoking xenophobic fear and hatred in the U.S., first using Mexican immigrants and now Muslims as a lightning rod of bigotry. Trump obviously knows his audience well and uses his position as a cultural icon and skilled entertainer to embolden his fascist demagogue status… and Americans can’t seem to get enough of it. “We have to talk to them about, maybe in certain areas, closing that internet up in some ways. Somebody will say, ‘Oh freedom of speech, freedom of speech.’ These are foolish people.”

The jackbooted nazi Trump is being deliberately outrageous and offensive in order to make a sleazier snake like Cruz appear more palatable.
The government shuts down certain web sites all the time. And you ARE foolish if you believe that freedom of speech protects a kiddie porn website. If ISIS is running a recruitment website, I say shut it down. I'm surprised that wasn't done long ago.
You seem to be fascinated with kiddie porn websites, care to explain? I'm sure Trump isn't referring to those. I am not surprised that you and he agree that freedom of speech is "foolish". In a Cop Culture, the Bill of Rights Doesn’t Amount to Much I think shutting it down is a bad idea. Better for law enforcement to track jihadist chatter if they have access to the same sites the jihadists frequent. Part of the problem with tracking Bin Laden was that he did not use the net to communicate instructions . He was old school using couriers and intermediaries to send messages .

Do you feel the same way about the mosques and madrassas that preach "death to the infidels" and "death to America"? I mean, allowing them to stay open will also allow law enforcement to track jihadist chatter.
We cannot allow fear to turn us into a Fascist government. I understand that fighting the invaders is important, but we have to think. I understand that many measures were taken to fight the Germans in WWII, and they were probably necessary. However, taking down the Internet also takes down the means by which people can communicate without the Mainstream Media. Does anyone trust our fine Media venues?

Deckard, try to think. He isn't saying to close the Internet. He is saying we should do something to control ISIS from using it to coordinate attacks or otherwise support their efforts against us. Look at the context and what he is saying. Psalm 37 PRAY FOR PARIS
Personally I have no problem with that . But the real problem is that NYC used to survaille on those mosques . They picked up a bunch of useful intel that helped them in their anti-terrorist enforcement .That program was shut down because of PC . But lets say that the government decides that it is going to crack down on "hate speech" and targets people who preach against Moslems (like Loretta Lynch has already threatened ) ,or decides to target Christian churches that preach anti-homosexual sermons for shutdown(as the mayor of Houston threatened ) . I'd say we are walking a slippery slope. The government has already decided that "right wing extremism" is just as great a threat as Islamism. Quis custodiet ipsos custodes?
Sure. I wanted to cite an example that you'd understand.
Supposedly we're at war with radical Islam. Now, either we are or we aren't. If we are, then shutting down websites, mosques, and madrassas that preach 'death to the infidels' and 'death to America' seems like a logical thing to do. This should have been done on 9/12/01. It wasn't.
