Police in Kentucky have arrested an Indiana man for the stabbing death of a 6-year-old boy, killed during a home invasion in a seemingly totally unprovoked attack.
Police in Versailles, Kentucky, arrested Ronald Exantus, 32, after being called about a home invasion at around 4AM on the morning of Monday, December 7.
The homeowner told officials that Exantus broke into the home, and after wandering around for a while on the bottom floor, soon mounted the stairs, entered the room of the sleeping child, and viciously stabbed the child several times in the head with a large kitchen knife that he obtained in the house, according to Fox 59.
Court documents reveal that the victims 11-year-old sister began screaming when she saw Exantus in the home and began trying to fight the man. This alerted the childrens father who tackled the suspect and held him for police.
But it was too late to save little Logan Tipton, a student at Simmons Elementary in Versailles.
Investigators have no idea why a man from Indianapolis ended up 200 miles from his home to break into a random home in Kentucky.
Were all kind of bumping our heads again a wall; its mind-boggling, Versailles police Lt. Michael Fortney told the Associated Press. Its very, very tragic. Its a child who had no opportunity to defend himself.
We legitimately at this point dont know how this guy got to Versailles, Fortney said. We have no correlation, there is no family, no nothing.
Police also told the media that Exantus confessed to the murder and is currently held at the Woodford County Detention Center on charges of murder and burglary.
Neighbors set up a meal train campaign for the family to help them with food during this terrible event.
