Shooter's Father: Farook Told Me He Supported ISIS, Al Baghdadi Phil Palmer | 06 December, 2015, 21:29
Additionally, the father claims Farook was "obsessed with Israel".
"My son said that he shared [ISIS leader Abu Bakr] Al Baghdadi's ideology and supported the creation of the Islamic State".
The elder Syed Farook, 67, spoke to Italian newspaper La Stampa and said that the 28-year-old had become "too shy, conservative, and fixated against Israel". They'll take them back to Ukraine. What is the point of fighting?
One of those killed by Farook and his wife was Nicholas Thalasinos, a Jewish-identified Christian who was strongly pro-Israel. We have already done it and we lost.
He said that he tried to argue with his son that opposition to Israel was best done with politics rather than weapons, and became angry with his son after seeing that he had acquired a gun. Geopolitics is changing: "Russia, China and America don't want Jews there any more", Farook explained, "but he did not listen to me, he was obsessed".
The elder Syed Farook, who came to the USA from Pakistan in 1973 and has a degree in mechanical engineering, said that his younger son had a good life and was making good money while studying towards a master's degree.
U.S. correspondent Paolo Mastrolilli asked whether Farook believes his son may have been radicalized by his 29-year-old wife, Tashfeen Malik.
In the La Stampa interview, Farook denied the accusations, saying that "Rizwan's mother is very religious, as he was, and they united against me. My son called me a godless person and he decided that my marriage with my wife had to end", he recalled. "I told my son that way would destroy our family, but he didn't care". Farook Sr. went on to imply that his son's attack was tied to their shared anti-Israel beliefs. His daughters, Rizwan's sisters, told The New York Times that they had seen no warning signs.
