The Obama administration is pressing for gun control, repeating a demand that Congress pass a ban on gun ownership for Americans on the no-fly list. “If the U.S. Government has determined that it is too dangerous for you to board a plane then you shouldn’t be able to buy a gun,” White House Press Secretary Josh Earnest said during a press conference in Paris today. Earnest made the request just days after he called on Americans to talk about gun control during Thanksgiving dinner. “Congress should pass this law before leaving for the Holidays,” Earnest said. Earnest’s rhetoric continues the White House efforts pushed by anti-gun activists to do something on gun control. After the shooting in Colorado over the weekend, President Obama demanded that Congress do something about guns. “This is not normal. We can’t let it become normal,” he said. “If we truly care about this … then we have to do something about the easy accessibility of weapons of war on our streets to people who have no business wielding them. No. It's a secret. But, there are two names we know weren't on it -- Syed Rizwan Farook and Tafsheen Malik.
What names may be on their list is an issue that reaches beyond the individuals targeted. The fed's name indexing systems are based on the ancient Soundex system. That system sucks more than you can imagine.
Well let's see. The federal government denying you your second amendment right because you might do something illegal based solely on the fact that you're on some secret list created by the federal government using criteria also created by the federal government. Gosh. Why limit it to the second amendment? Why not include the fourth? Or the first? Or the entire BOR?
In Soundex, misterwhite is also macdermid, macdiarmid, mashiter, masters, masterson, mcdermitt, mcdermott, mcdorman, mcguthry, mcstravick, mcteer, mcturk, and meister. (Although the federal government might supplement their indexing and retrieval systems with manually populated surname and given name equivalents. Maybe some character string matching.) Oh, and Soundex was developed for western names. As poor as it is for those, when applied to Asian and Middle Eastern names it is next to useless.
